Merry Christmas! - Dancers In Holiday Mood

 Hello Dancers,
I hope you all had a Merry Christmas.  Although the 32nd Street Group's Holiday Party at Fiesta Hall had 100's in attendance, dancers were few at the places I went.  Details below.

TUESDAY NIGHT LINE DANCING - Line dancing at Point Point Joint resumed on Tuesday December 21st, after a one-week break for a Christmas party.  "If You Wanna Be Happy" line dance got the most attention.  We danced a lot of others, but maybe my sentimental favorite was "Rockin Pneumonia and Boogie Woogie Flu", because I must've had the flu.
THIS TUESDAY (Dec 28th) you can join the fun at Point Point, 916 E. 8th Street, National City, 6:30-9:00, when Nina will again lead us through fun line dances.  $5.

WEDNESDAY FILIPINO NIGHT at Lucky Star Restaurant on December 22nd, was advertised in "Filipino Press", but there was more-or-less NO DANCING, probably because DJ Eric is on a holiday vacation.
DJ Eric said he's off until Wednesday January 12th, so if there is any dancing this coming Wednesday, there again should be no cover charge. The LUCKY STAR RESTAURANT is at 54th Street & University Avenue, San Diego.

THURSDAY NIGHT DANCING AT JADE HOUSE at 569 H Street, Chula Vista, Dec 23rd, had about 10 dancers, including the Mr. Everywhere, Bert Andrade.  DJ RT mixed in a good amount of karaoke along with great dance songs like "She Bangs", "Asi Asi", "September", "Todo Todo Todo" and the "Tennessee Waltz" line dance..  Manager Vangie Mangune will be open next Thursday night Dec 30th, 6pm-about 11pm for dinner, dancing and karaoke. Dinner will be off the menu, and no extra cover charge for dancing this week, so if you can make it, come on down.

PHOTOS:
First of all, from Point Point Joint's Line Dance Night, Wednesday Dec 21st, we see Divine showing Jun the proper steps to "If You Wanna Be Happy", while Nina sits in her DJ booth supervising the whole thing.

Then, at Jade House on Thursday night Dec 23rd, DJ RT was full of energy and he joined dancers for the "Cupid Shuffle".

I put those two plus 10 other photos from the past week in the Forever Young Group Photos section into the '2010 December' folder.  For those of you who prefer the features of Google's Picasa Web Albums, and you who are non-Yahoo members, the December photos are also posted at

Lucky Star Had Low Attendance on Wednesday Dec 15th

Hello Dancers,
Attendance at Lucky Star on Wednesday Dec 15th was very low; DJ Eric said he won't be back till Jan 12th.   Details below.

TUESDAY NIGHT LINE DANCING - There was no line dancing at Point Point Joint on Tuesday December 14th, because the folks went to a Christmas Party at Nedy's.
THIS TUESDAY (Dec 21st) you can join the fun at Point Point, 916 E. 8th Street, National City, 6:30-9:00, when Nina will again lead us through fun line dances.  $5.

WEDNESDAY FILIPINO NIGHT at Lucky Star Restaurant on December 8th, featured DJ Eric, the One-Man Band.  Attendance plunged again, this time to a mere 8  dancers plus Eric.  Dancers there were Mel, Gloria, me, Vivian, Malou, Dollybelle, Nita and Dione. The few of us had a wide open dance floor, and we danced to a lot of great songs like "You're The First, The Last, My Everything", "Heaven's What I Feel", the Waltz Line Dance, and "Coco Jamboo".
DJ Eric said he's off until Wednesday January 12th, so if there is any dancing this Wednesday, there should be no cover charge. The LUCKY STAR RESTAURANT is at 54th Street & University Avenue, San Diego.

THURSDAY NIGHT DANCING AT JADE HOUSE at 569 H Street, Chula Vista, had about 12 dancers, including Cora and several of her friends.  DJ RT kept the room hopping, and the holiday mood in full swing, especially to "Rocking Around The Christmas Tree".  Manager Vangie Mangune will be open next Thursday night 6pm-nearly midnight Dec 23rd for buffet dinner, dancing and karaoke, all for $10, so if you can make it, come on down.

PHOTOS:
First of all, from Lucky Star Filipino Night, Wednesday Dec 15th, DJ Eric and Vivian have fun dancing to the "Caribbean Disco Show" medley.

Then, at Jade House on Thursday night Dec 16th, Cora had a strong partner for some dance - Cora got a nice big lift at the end of the dance.

I put those two plus 11 other photos from the past week in the Forever Young Group Photos section into the '2010 December' folder.  For those of you who prefer the features of Google's Picasa Web Albums, and you who are non-Yahoo members, the December photos are also posted at

The Nostalgia Singers Entertained Dancers at Jade House on Thursday

Hello Dancers,
Dancers at Jade House's Thursday Night Dance Party December 9th were entertained by The Nostalgia Singers.   Details below.

TUESDAY NIGHT LINE DANCING - Tuesday December 7th, Line Dance Night at Point Point brought about 20 energetic line dancers, including 1st-timer Rene.  Nina introduced a country line dance that's popular around the world called "Good Time", a rollicking song by Alan Jackson.  Nitz, a 32nd St Group regular, introduced another cute line dance to the Point Point crowd, called "If You Want To Be Happy".  MP3's of both are available for you in this Yahoo Group's Files.  A lot of time was spent on the dizzying new line dance steps to "Asi Asi".  With guys Rene and Bong being more familiar with ballroom dancing, there was some nice swing dancing also taking place, especially to "Achy Breaky Heart".  We went through over 10 different line dances again.  Among them were "I Love The Nightlife", "Rock Around The Clock", "Sex Bomb", "September", "Simplemente" and "Tennessee Waltz".
THIS TUESDAY (Dec 14th) NO DANCING AT POINT POINT.  Instead, a Party at Nedy's house.  You can join the fun at Point Point again on following Tuesdays (December 21st, December 28th, January 4th, etc.) at Point Point Joint, 916 E. 8th Street, National City, 6:30-9:00, when Nina will again lead us through fun line dances.  $5.

WEDNESDAY FILIPINO NIGHT at Lucky Star Restaurant on December 8th, featured DJ Eric, the One-Man Band.  Attendance plunged to 12 dancers, one of the dancers being newcomer Vivian, plus a dozen or more people who were just eating.  Among the dancers, there were about the same number of ladies and guys, so there was a lot of dancing, and we frequently had 10 of the 12 dancers on the floor.  All the swing and hustle dances got nearly 10 dancers on the floor, like "Hot Stuff" and "You Should Be Dancing".
We're looking forward to this coming week's "Filipino Night". It will again be WEDNESDAY NIGHT (December 15th) in the LUCKY STAR RESTAURANT, 54th Street & University Avenue, San Diego, from about 6:30 to 9:30pm.

THURSDAY NIGHT DANCING AT JADE HOUSE at 569 H Street, Chula Vista, had about 20 dancers, including some who sang karaoke and The Nostalgia Singers, on Thursday night December 9th.  Because Christmas is getting closer, there was a seasonal festive atmosphere in Jade House.  The "Nostalgia Singers", Pressy, Tess, Mina and Lilia, entertained everyone with a variety of pretty songs including Christmas songs.  Besides the Nostalgia Singers, there were line dancers from Nina's line dancing group, some from 32 Street Group, and some who go to Lucky Star and Forever Young events.  Line dancers were in the majority early in the night and again at the end of the night, but from 9 to 10 ballroom dancers were in the majority.  The music matched the audience, and I left at 11 right after "Coco Jamboo".  Evelyn had a little jewelry display, and ladies bought a bunch of bling from her.  Manager Vangie Mangune will be open next Thursday night 6pm-nearly midnight Dec 16th for buffet dinner, dancing and karaoke, all for $10, so if you can make it, come on down.

PHOTOS:
First of all, from Point Point Line Dance Night, Tuesday Dec 7th, we see Rei and Gloria taking a break from line dancing to do a bit of swing dancing to "Achy Breaky Heart".

Then, at Jade House on Thursday night Dec 9th, we see The Nostalgia Singers, with Pressy in front and Mina, Lilia and Tess behind her singing a sweet melodic song.

I put those two plus 13 other photos from the past week in the Forever Young Group Photos section into the '2010 December' folder.  For those of you who prefer the features of Google's Picasa Web Albums, and you who are non-Yahoo members, the November photos are also posted at

TUESDAY NIGHT LINE DANCING - Tuesday November 30th, line dance night now $5 per person at Point Point brought about 15 energetic line dancers, including 1st-timers Leah and Susan.  Nina introduced the cute line dance "Rockin' Around The Christmas Tree", which will be a "must" for a few weeks.  We went through over 15 different line dances again. Besides the ones listed above, we danced to "I Love The Nightlife", "Rock Around The Clock", "Sway", "Sex Bomb" and "Simplemente".
You can join the fun this coming Tuesday (December 7th) at Point Point Joint, 916 E. 8th Street, National City, 6:30-9:00, when Nina will again lead us through fun line dances.

WEDNESDAY FILIPINO NIGHT at Lucky Star Restaurant on December 1st, featured DJ Eric, the One-Man Band.  Attendance crept up to 25 dancers, one being Bert Andrade, plus dozens of diners.  There were about the same number of ladies and guys, so there was a lot of dancing, but still there weren't more than 20 dancers on the floor at any one time.  The waltz "Right Thing That We Do" got about 20 dancers.
We're looking forward to this coming week's "Filipino Night". It will again be WEDNESDAY NIGHT (December 8th) in the LUCKY STAR RESTAURANT, 54th Street & University Avenue, San Diego, from about 6:30 to 9:30pm.

THURSDAY NIGHT DANCING AT JADE HOUSE at 569 H Street, Chula Vista, had about 15 dancers on Thursday night December 2nd.  A lot of interesting things took place.  I enjoyed an extended samba lesson and dance which took place to Madonna's "La Isla Bonita" over & over.  Penny joined us and introduced several dances, including "Caribbean Disco Show" line dance.  Manager Vangie Mangune will be open next Thursday night 6pm-nearly midnight Dec 9th for buffet dinner, dancing and karaoke, all for $10.

PHOTOS:
First of all, from Lucky Star on "Filipino Night", Wednesday Dec 1st, we see Edith, Zeny, Divine and Jun dancing in sync to "In The Mood Swing Medley".

Then, at Jade House on Thursday night Dec 2nd, we see Wilma, Nedy and Jun dancing late into the night.

TITA's II.  The building where Jestoni (formerly Manila-Tokyo) existed, which has been dormant since May, has been the scene of much renovation work lately.  Apparently the Stop Work order was lifted, and Tita's II is being readied for an opening.  There's still no word on what kind of weekly entertainment Tita's II will have, but there have been big Help Wanted ads in "Filipino Press" lately.  The help wanted is for "chefs & kitchen help".  The ads mention "unique dining and entertainment experience" and "target opening day is 1st week of December" (i.e., now!  It looks like it'll be somewhat later.).

Two Marilyns Join Line Dancers in Same Night

Hello Dancers,
Hoping you had a Happy Thanksgiving, and with no dancing at Jade House tonight, this report covers dancing I was at in past few days.  Two ladies named Marilyn came to Tuesday night Line Dancing at Point Point for the first time.  Details below.

SATURDAY NIGHT'S LIONS CLUB DANCE at LOMA VERDE had an estimated 150 dancers at a gala dinner-dance on a rainy night.  Large contingents were there from 32nd Street Dance Group, the Dance Fusion Social Club, and the RMX Dance Group.  I got new info on Cesar and the Dance Fusion Club, and I saw RMX dancers do a well-choreographed number.  Vangie Mangune, who manages Thursday nights at Jade House, reports that she and her dance partner Brian won the tango contest.

TUESDAY NIGHT (free!) LINE DANCING - Tuesday November 23rd, free line dance night at Point Point brought about 15 energetic line dancers, including 2 newcomers both named Marilyn!  Point Point owner Lydia was managing the restaurant Tuesday, and she joined in several of the line dances.  We went through over 15 different line dances, with "I Love The Nightlife", "Tennessee Waltz", and the recently-introduced "Rock Around The Clock" line dance getting special attention.
You can join the fun this coming Tuesday (November 30th) at Point Point Joint, 916 E. 8th Street, National City, 6:30-9:00, when Nina will again lead us through fun line dances.

WEDNESDAY FILIPINO NIGHT at Lucky Star Restaurant on November 24th, featured DJ Eric, the One-Man Band.  Attendance doubled from the previous week!  But still, it was only 20 dancers.  We got to compare notes and dance steps with Joe, Josie, Romy, Cynthia, Luther and Maria, who have been coming off & on for a couple months to Lucky Star, and who say they often dance Sundays afternoons as the youngest in attendance at the Kimball Senior Center in National City.  A few songs like "Besame Mucho", "Souvenirs", and "You're the First, Last, My Everything", those last two both being disco hustle, got almost everyone dancing.  Divine, the most enthusiastic line dancer among us, got DJ Eric to play "Coco Jamboo" and "Cumbia Semana" line dances.
We're looking forward to this coming week's "Filipino Night". It will again be WEDNESDAY NIGHT (December 1st) in the LUCKY STAR RESTAURANT, 54th Street & University Avenue, San Diego, from about 6:30 to 9:30pm.

THURSDAY NIGHT DANCING AT JADE HOUSE at 569 H Street, Chula Vista, had no Thursday night dancing this week, but Manager Vangie Mangune said she will be open next Thursday night Dec 2nd for buffet dinner, dancing and karaoke, all for $10.

LINE DANCING - Tuesday November 16th, free line dance night at Point Point brought in 16 energetic line dancers, including newcomers Jona, Vicki and Yiying.  Nitz introduced us to another line dance that being done at the 32nd Street Dance Group, a new set of steps for 'Asi Asi' which involves lots of dizzying clockwise spinning.  Besides delicious Point Point food, the night was full of high energy as dancers went through over 15 line dances, some multiple times.  They included "I Love The Nightlife", "September", "Simplemente", "Sway", "Tennessee Waltz", "Volare", and other line dances.
You can join the fun this coming Tuesday (November 23rd) at Point Point Joint, 916 E. 8th Street, National City, 6:30-9:00, when Nina will again lead us through fun line dances.

WEDNESDAY FILIPINO NIGHT at Lucky Star Restaurant on November 17th, had a ridiculously low number of dancers - only ten!  There was lots of room on the floor - never more than 8 dancers on the floor at one time.  DJ Eric was back along with the $6 cover charge.  Around 7:30 there were six of us who knew each other, me, Bert Alota, Dione, Nita, and Jerry and his date Elenora.  Jerry, Bert Alota and I were finalizing details of a time sharing plan to dance with the two ladies, when in walked two former Filipina fashion models, Rina formerly from Leyte and Naomi formerly from Baguio.  Holy smoke!  I was asking them to dance before they selected a table to sit.  Luckily they picked the table next to us.  And, luckily Rina was happy to dance with us guys.  DJ Eric seemed to know just what to play.  To Rina's delight, DJ Eric played lots of disco hustle like "You're the First, Last, My Everything."  All three of the ladies were wonderfully easy to dance with.  Elenora, formerly from Brazil, enjoyed "Lambada", and she even did well on the waltz line dance, never having seen it before. With basically no line dancers there, the only other line dance we did the steps to was "Coco Jamboo".
We're looking forward to this coming week's "Filipino Night". It will again be WEDNESDAY NIGHT (November 24th) in the LUCKY STAR RESTAURANT from about 6:30 to 9:30pm.

THURSDAY NIGHT DANCING AT JADE HOUSE.  The Jade House Restaurant at 569 H Street, Chula Vista, had its 3rd Thursday night of dancing and karaoke on November 18th.  Manager Vangie Mangune served up a delicious buffet dinner and snacks, dancing and karaoke for $10, from 6PM-nearly midnight.  DJ RT kept the music going, in spite of a late arrival of line dance CDs.  There was a lot of socializing among about 25 dancers who showed up, again including dancers from the 32nd Street group, Forever Young, Nina's Tuesday night line dancers, and other groups (see photos in photo albums).
Vangie said she might be open next Thursday night Nov 25th (THANKSGIVING DAY) for dinner at Jade House, but I do not have final info on that, so call ahead (619-426-5951).
