Red White & Blue Night Dance Party This Thursday (July 4th)

Hello Dancers,

This coming Thursday (July 4th) will be Red White & Blue Dance Party from 6 to 10PM at Point Point (details below).
"Asia Night" last Thursday (June 27th) was a rousing success, with 50 dancers and many colorful Asian costumes.  "Asia Night" dancers were saddened to learn that one of our regular Thursday night dancers, Zeny Alota, had just passed away.  Father Peter said a prayer for Mrs Alota, her husband Bert and their family, and we had a silent prayer for them.  Coincidentally, the night was also Father Peter's last Thursday night with us as he is being transferred to L.A.  On a more cheerful note, Father Peter and his wife Marie won the Best Asian Costume prize dressed in traditional clothing of India.  DJ Mel kept the Joint jumping right up to closing time on a pleasantly cool evening.

Photo Highlights from June 27th "Asia Night":     (Note: If the following photos do not appear when you look at this email, click the words at the top of this email that say something like "images have been blocked to protect your privacy" - I already know who you are):

Edith R was delightfully eye-catching in a red Chinese dress.  Here she dances gracefully to "Caballero".

Also dancing "Caballero", Nedy was in Igorot costume, Baby was in a pink Vietnamese dress, and Beth danced in a blue & black Filipino balintawak gown.

A while later the dancers were on the floor for "Almost Jamaica".

Marie and Peter received the Best Asian Costume prize from Nina.

And, here we see Marie and Peter dancing.

At closing time the Joint was still full with dancers on the floor for "Mambo Ritmo"

Still time for one more photo (just after 10pm).

It's a fun dance party most every Thursday night at Point Point with line dances and ballroom swing, cha cha, night club 2-step, tango and much much more.  Once again this Thursday Point Point, 916 E. 8th Street, National City, offers their special price of $10 for 2-entree dinner plus drink for Thursday Night dancers.

Here's the plan for the next few weeks (well, at least until DJ Leo returns from the Philippines):

Thursday  July 4th  Non-stop dancing from 6-10pm, FILIPINO-AMERICAN Friendship Night (or Red White & Blue Night). There will be complimentary snacks. We hope to see you there. DJ Bert
Thursday  July 11th 6-10pm, DJ Mel
Thursday  July 18th 6-10pm, DJ Bert
Thursday  July 25th 6-10pm, DJ Mel

(The Early Birds start partying around 5:30pm.)

See you on the dance floor,
Bert & Edith

P.S. Other Notes: (1) The Thursday night dance parties are private parties, and this is your invitation to enjoy dancing in Point Point Joint Restaurant, a mere four miles from downtown San Diego.  Every Thursday there are dancers who are happy to give free dance lessons during the dances, in case you don't know the steps of a particular dance.  Come over now before the summer gets really warm.

Marilyn and Romy here made the drive down from Oceanside. We welcomed them.

Florita, Lita and Jerry were enjoying some kind of dance here.

Rei loves to dance salsa, and I knew that.  So, here I made sure to dance the "Mi Bom Bon" salsa with her.

At the same time, Florita and Ruben were having fun dancing the salsa.

"Caballero" remains a favorite.  Here, DJ Mel and Rei are in front.

At closing time the "Wobble" dancers were on the floor, with Rima and Edith in front.

Filipino Night Photos and Dance This Thursday (June 20th)

Hello Dancers,

Filipino Night was a festive success and a photo frenzy (details below).
This is your invitation to come back to Point Point this coming Thursday (June 20th) for non-stop dancing from 6 - 10pm.  We hope to see you there.  Today's paper predicts a high of 75 degrees on Thursday.
This past Thursday (June 13th) was the Filipino Night Dance Party at Point Point, and the night was a full blown photographers' fest from 6 to 10pm, in perfect weather.  Dancing seemed to be 2nd place compared to the fancy Filipino costumes (see some photos below).  Photos cannot even convey the full beauty of it all.  DJ Mel kept the music going all night for about 50 dancers through several "special number" dances, the costume contest, and various introductions.
PHOTOS:  Filipino Night had non-stop camera flashes.  The numerous photos do not do justice to what we saw.  Anyway, here is an ELEVEN-photo (!!) sample of the beautiful sights.   (Note: If the following photos do not appear when you look at this email, click the words at the top of this email that say something like "images have been blocked to protect your privacy" - I already know who you are):

Cesar led dancers in a "new" line dance called "Tornero".

Florita and Rima were delightfully joyous around Nedy who was wearing a delightfully beautiful yellow Maria Clara dress.

The ladies' costumes were beautiful.  Here lined up next to Edith left to right are Joy, Emma, Eva, Suzanne and Nedy.

Jesse was dancing all night.  On this dance he danced with a 1st-timer.

New-comers Mike and Joy won the Best Costume gift awarded here by my Edith.

The "Prime Ladies" had a "special number" dance.  Here Myrna and Nilda are in front while Marie gets everyone into position.

Beth, Peter and Nedy dance another "special number", this being "La Jota Moncadena", a Filipino folk dance reportedly originally from Tarlac.

Dancers here enjoy "Dahil Sa Iyo", which has been a line dance favorite for a few months now.

DJ Ernie and Christine danced near 9:30pm.

A little later Rima and Jack were dancing.

At closing time both ballroom and line dancers were on the floor for "Baby Likes To Rock It".  Carlos (in red in foreground) danced it with Christine.

It's a fun dance party most every Thursday night at Point Point with line dances and ballroom swing, cha cha, night club 2-step, tango and much much more.  Once again this Thursday Point Point offers their special price of $10 for 2-entree dinner plus drink for Thursday Night dancers.
Here's the plan for the next few weeks (well, at least until DJ Leo returns from the Philippines):

Thursday  June 20th 6-10om, DJ Bert

Hello Dancers,

Here's your invitation to this coming Thursday's (June 6th) Dance Party at Point Point - it'll be another merry good time on the Point Point dance floor; we hope to see you there.  Today's paper predicts a high of 73 degrees on Thursday, another couple degrees warmer that last week's prediction.  Anyway, we'll have non-stop dancing fun from 6-10pm - I'll be playing line dances and ballroom swing, cha cha, night club 2-step, tango and much much more.  Once again Point Point offers their special price of $10 for 2-entree dinner plus drink for Thursday Night dancers.
Last Thursday (May 30th) DJ Mel made sure that about 40 dancers had a marvelous time at the dance party at Point Point.  And, once again there were some newcomers and some ladies there who had not been to a Thursday night Point Point dance in a year or more.  The weather was perfect again.  Here are some photo highlights from last Thursday's May 30th party (Note: If the following photos do not appear when you look at this email, click the words at the top of this email that say something like "images have been blocked to protect your privacy" - I already know who you are):

DJ Ernie joined the fun again.  Here Edith R and Ernie are dancing a night club 2-step, "Tal Vez, Quizas".

And across the floor at the same time, Florita and Cisco were dancing.

A little while later I snapped Ester peek-a-booing and doing a dance with DJ Ernie

Then, Edith and Rima were in front on one of the newer line dances, "Mambo Ritmo".

Near closing time, Jesse was still giving dance lessons, this time with the song "Hello Dolly".
