Beautiful Ladies - Few Guys Last Week

Hello Dancers,
What a difference a week makes!  My eyes and camera were in overload Oct 26 & 27th.  At Lucky Star Restaurant's weekly 'Filipino Night' this past Wednesday October 27th, there were twice as many people as were there the previous week.  My eyes were dazzled by the beautiful women in beautiful clothing, so much that I didn't realize till the end of the night that there were only 5 guys and 15 beautiful ladies on our side of the room.  When I came to my senses at closing time, it dawned on me that some ladies had left early, disappointed that there were so few guys.  One lady even vented on DJ Eric.  Most of the dancing duties fell on Chito and Bong.  As the evening progressed, some resourceful ladies began using the otherwise-useless blue admission tickets as permission slips to cut in on each other to dance with Chito.  Besides, Dion, even me and Mel got to dance more than we usually do.
As for the more mundane statistics of the night, DJ Eric, the one-man band, played good dance songs non-stop all night.  Between 6:45 and 9:30 he played 32 ballroom dance songs and 12 line dances.  The dancers' favorite of the night was the 'Swing Medley' which got about 35 dancers on the floor at 8:30.  Surprisingly, just before that 'Let's Twist Again' saw 30 twisters on the floor.  The disco hustle 'Heaven's What I Feel' - Wow!  Bong had Mona spinning so much that even I was dizzy (see photo below).  Among line dances, 'Cumbia Semana' had 30 people dancing with about half doing ballroom cumbia, and 'Tennessee Waltz' had 28 dancers.
We're looking forward to this coming week's "Filipino Night". It will again be WEDNESDAY NIGHT (November 3rd) in the LUCKY STAR RESTAURANT from 6 to 9:30pm.

LINE DANCE TUESDAYS (free!) - Tuesday October 26th was an amazing preview of the next day.  18 beautiful ladies came to the event, plus me and Bong (see photos in the Photo album).  It was a once in a lifetime experience for me, and my head was spinning.  Besides dancing, the big event was Belen's birthday party.  Besides Belen, I got to be with Nina, Nitz & Crystal, Beth, Carmen, Divine, Edith, Gloria, Ledy, Lee, Luna, Nedy, Penny, Racquel, Rei, Sol and Zeny.  And, we enjoyed dancing to great songs like "Tennessee Waltz", "Sex Bomb", "Asi Asi", "Can't Take My Eyes Off You", "Cumbia Semana", "Volare", and "Shalala Lala".
You can join the fun this coming Tuesday (November 2nd, election night) at Point Point Joint, 916 E. 8th Street, National City, 6:30-9:00, when Nina will again lead us through fun line dances.

'Quien Sera (Sway)' Favorite Dance at Lucky Star Oct 20th

Hello Dancers,
Latin music was well-liked by dancers at Lucky Star Restaurant's weekly 'Filipino Night' this past Wednesday October 20th.  At 8:10pm DJ Eric, the one-man band, who was playing good dance songs all night, played 'Quien Sera' cha cha, which is the same tune as 'Sway', and 9 couples danced to it.  They all stayed on the floor for the very next song, a rock & roller - 'Johnny B. Goode' sung karaoke-style by a friend of DJ Eric.  There was plenty of room on the dance floor all night, with only about 20 FOREVER YOUNGSTERS and about 10 other party-goers in attendance.  In spite of low turnout, dancers were happy - even waiter Danny was dancing (see photos in the album).  Between 7 and 9:30 there were 30 ballroom dances and 10 line dances.  Among the line dances, 'Riverdance Tango' got the most dancers - 16 dancers at 8:25.  And near 9:30 'Achy Breaky Heart' got almost as many dancers, mostly due to DJ Eric's great rendition.
We're looking forward to this coming week's FOREVER YOUNG NIGHT. It will again be WEDNESDAY NIGHT (October 27th) in the LUCKY STAR RESTAURANT from 6 to 9:30pm.

LINE DANCE TUESDAYS (free!) - About 10 line dancers showed up on a rainy Tuesday October 19th for line dancing led by Nina at Point Point Joint.  Surprise! Surprise!  My partner in this email group, Art Tennessee, showed up and danced some of the line dances for the first time.   He said he's got amazing new energy from Kangen Water, some of which he and Femie Cupit brought to the line dancers.  What did we dance?  "Cumbia Semana", "Volare", "Can't Take My Eyes Off You", "Tennessee Waltz", and we practiced some more with the new one, "Shalala Lala".
You can join the fun this coming Tuesday (October 26th) at Point Point Joint, 916 E. 8th Street, National City, 6:30-9:00, when Nina will again lead us through fun line dances.

Disco Hustle Tops FOREVER YOUNG NIGHT Oct 13th

Hello Dancers,
Lucky Star Restaurant's weekly 'Filipino Night' was moved into the smaller ballroom again this past Wednesday October 13th.  But, that was good for about 30 FOREVER YOUNGSTERS and about 15 other party-goers in the ballroom who enjoyed seeing each other better.  Several folks were welcomed back - Marylou was back from a month in Australia with stories and more.  Leo & Penny were back.  And, Maria, a one-time singer at the Jestoni Manila Tokyo Restaurant, enjoyed the night with her family.  DJ Eric, the One-Man Band, played lots of great dance songs, including a new all-time high number of line dances (!!) - 17 by my count (6 were in the last 30 minutes), along with about 24 other ballroom dances between 7pm-9:30pm.
Dancers were more energetic than the previous week, with 30 dancers dancing to Gloria Estefan's disco hustle hit, "Heaven's What I Feel" at 8:15pm.  The cha cha "Boca Con Boca" did almost as well a few minutes later.  As for all the line dances, "Simplemente" got 25 dancers, most of them dancing the line dance.
We're looking forward to this coming week's FOREVER YOUNG NIGHT. It will again be WEDNESDAY NIGHT (October 20th) in the LUCKY STAR RESTAURANT from 6 to 9:30pm.

LINE DANCE TUESDAYS (free!) - About 18 line dancers showed up on Tuesday October 12th for line dancing led by Nina at Point Point Joint, some for the first time, including Luna.  Besides having fun dancing "Tennessee Waltz", "September", "Asi Asi", "Simplemente" and more, we enjoyed some extra curricular activities.  An election campaigner came by and handed out Meg For Governor shopping bags.  Nancy visited the dancers, promoting Body By Vi products.  And, Dan Sullivan and Del stopped by, alerting us that Wes Unger, the main dance instructor & DJ for the 32nd Street Dance Group, just started using an empty store by Point Point to give private dance lessons Monday, Tuesday and Thursday evenings.  So, Edith & I walked there, to the former Chestbox Unlimited store at Suite 211, to see Wes using it for a lesson (see photo in album).
You can join the fun this coming Tuesday (October 19th) at Point Point Joint, 916 E. 8th Street, National City, 6:30-9:00, when Nina will again lead us through fun line dances.

PHOTOS:
I attach two photos "virtually".  First of all, it's line dancers dancing … what?  I think it's "Asi Asi" - Tuesday Oct 12th at Point Point Joint.

Then, FOREVER YOUNGSTERS welcome Marylou back from Australia with dinner and dancing during FOREVER YOUNG NIGHT at Lucky Star on Oct 13th.

'Tennessee Waltz' Was FOREVER YOUNG NIGHT Favorite Oct 5th

Hello Dancers,
We were wondering where all the absent happy dancers were this past Wednesday October 5th, during FOREVER YOUNG NIGHT as part of Lucky Star Restaurant's weekly 'Filipino Night'.  With only about 30 FOREVER YOUNGSTERS and about 10 other party-goers in the ballroom, there was a lot of friendly interaction between everyone.   I think DJ Eric, the One-Man Band, noticed so few guys dancing with more than their "date" - who were those guys? Ping, Bong and Mel - that he cheered the women up by playing an all-time high number of line dances - 16 by my count, along with about 30 other ballroom dances between 6:45pm-9:30pm.
Of course there was plenty of room on the dance floor with no dance getting even 20 dancers on the floor, by my count.  "Tennessee Waltz" got 15 dancers, most of them dancing the line dance.  "S'mera" had about 24 dancers during the night because DJ Eric played it twice.
A new member to this email group, Remy DeRamos, was there.  She gave us some history of Forever Young and she gave us info about a Lions Club "Jam Session" at Loma Verde on Nov 20th (see below for details on this and other upcoming dances).
Hoping for more dancers, we're looking forward to this coming week's FOREVER YOUNG NIGHT. It will again be WEDNESDAY NIGHT (October 13th) in the LUCKY STAR RESTAURANT from 6 to 9:30pm.

LINE DANCE TUESDAYS (free!) - About 15 line dancers showed up on Tuesday October 5th for line dancing led by the ever-energetic Nina at Point Point Joint.  Chito & Cindy were there for the 1st time.  Some other women were planning a Filipino event in Point Point when we began, and they were our VIP dancers of the night.  Nina introduced a line dance, "Shalala Lala", and its YouTube video link is in Links section and the MP3 is in the Files section.
You can join the fun this coming Tuesday (October 12th) at Point Point Joint, 916 E. 8th Street, National City, 6:30-9:00, when Nina will again lead us through fun line dances.

'Rose Garden' (!!) Was FOREVER YOUNG NIGHT Favorite Sept 29th

Hello Dancers,
It was dance party ticket-selling night this past Wednesday September 29th, during FOREVER YOUNG NIGHT as part of Lucky Star Restaurant's weekly 'Filipino Night'.  Bert Andrade won in the price competition, promoting a FREE "Dance For Your Health" at Loma Verde Center October 16th (see below for details on this and other upcoming dances).
There were about 35 happy FOREVER YOUNGSTERS and about 15 other party-goers in the ballroom.   DJ Eric, the One-Man Band, played 10 line dances and about 30 other ballroom dances between 7pm-9:30pm.  There was usually plenty of room on the dance floor with only 4 dances getting over 20 dancers on the floor, by my count.  Surprisingly, "Rose Garden" got 26 dancers up, half line dancers and half swing dancers.  "Tennessee Waltz" did just about the same, with several disco hustle dancers sharing the floor with line dancers.  "Coco Jamboo" and "Asi Asi" also got over 20 dancers, with a mix of line dancers and ballroom dancers.
You can enjoy yourself and join the fun, frolic and laughter:  Once again, this coming week FOREVER YOUNG NIGHT will again be WEDNESDAY NIGHT (October 6th)  in the LUCKY STAR RESTAURANT from 6 to 9:30pm.

LINE DANCE TUESDAYS (free!) - About 15 line dancers showed up on Tuesday September 28th for line dancing led by the ever-energetic Nina at Point Point Joint.  The event of the night was a visit by Carly for Senate campaigners who took pictures of the line dancers rallying for Carly (see photo).  "Volare", "Rose Garden", "September" and "Tennessee Waltz" were all practiced for the planned exhibition at the October 2nd "Shunt For life" dance.
You can join the fun this coming Tuesday (October 5th) at Point Point Joint, 916 E. 8th Street, National City, 6:30-9:00, when Nina will again lead us through fun line dances.

PHOTOS:
Well, here we go again with two photos that are  attached "virtually".  First of all, we have line dancing to "Volare" on a warm Tuesday Sept 28th evening - notice fans in some hands.

Then, from FOREVER YOUNG NIGHT at Lucky Star on Sept 29th, it's Ernie and Irma Tactay who we welcomed after not seeing them at a FOREVER YOUNG NIGHT since early in the year.

I added those plus 11 other photos from the past week in the Forever Young Group Photos section into the '2010 September' folder.  For those of you who prefer the features of Google's Picasa Web Albums, and you who are non-Yahoo members, the September photos are also posted at

You can download photos from both locations.  Using another Picasa feature, you can order prints on-line out of a Picasa album from several print providers including Walgreens without the need to download & upload photo files to & from your computer. To see the photo file names in Picasa Web, left click on the 1st photo, then left click on 'more info' under 'Photo Information' .

OTHER DANCING EVENTS:
(I do not regularly go to these, so I wouldn't know if the event is cancelled on any particular day.)

The "Shunt For Life" dinner-dance, Saturday October 2nd, at Loma Verde Center, turned out to be a pretty big event with about 400 in attendance, after hundreds of hours of preparations (including about 25 dancer-hours at our Tuesday line dances).  Anyway, I think there were dancers there from every Fil-Am dance group in San Diego, and about 5 of the groups put on dance exhibitions.  Including this new one that I'd never heard of:

Red Hot Line Dancers.  They dance for FREE every Friday in the senior center at 8460 Mira Mesa Blvd., from 7-9pm.  Contact is Rose Mata at 858-204-7454.

Sundays, Filipino-American Senior-Junior Golden Years Association, dancing and food, at K-P Hall, 200 E. Plaza Blvd., National City.  $7.  Dancing more-or-less from noon till 3pm, featuring Harana Band and recorded dance music during breaks.
Wednesday karaoke and some dancing 9pm-1am at  Jasmine Restaurant on Convoy Street, hosted by Kristina, the Filipina karaoke queen.
Friday night dances:  There are 3 that begin variously between 7 or 8pm and go till about 11pm:  (1) the 32nd Street Dance Group on the Naval Station.  (2) the Poway Group ("The Dance Place") dances mostly ballroom at the Growing Place Montessori School, 13242 Pomerado Road, Poway.  $8.  Contact (858) 748-5790.    (3) the RMX Group dances mostly ballroom in Studio FX, 9499 Kearny Villa Road near Mira Mar Road;  $8; contact is Esta at 858-386-2789.
Monday-Friday, roughly 9am-noon, Tooma Park Seniors, dance, eat, etc., under a cabana at Bay Terraces Park, 7449 Tooma Street, San Diego.

Till we dance again, Bert
