It Was Great While It Lasted

Hello Dancers!
Last Tuesday we learned that Point Point Joint closes and becomes Poke Etc this weekend, so we hastily re-named last Thursday's dance as the "See You Again Dance Party".  And it was a wonderful and memorable night, with 45 Thursday night dancers, some who we had not seen in a year. DJ Bing Villafuerte played the music.

The eleven photos below tell part of the story of a very memorable night.

(Note: If the following photos do not appear when you look at this email, click the words at the top of this email that say something like "Show images which are still blocked to protect your privacy" - I already know who you are):

LAST THURSDAY'S DANCE PARTY AT POINT POINT JOINT (FEBRUARY 25, 2016):

TESSIE TALKED, kind of reluctantly, after we convinced her to tell us about the sudden change to Poke Etc.  She said she and Cathy become co-partners with Ofelia, who runs three Poke Etc restaurants in the L.A. area.  So, Point Point Joint will supposedly become Poke Etc.  Renovations will go on for a week or so.  Tessie hopes that Thursday night dancing can return (but in the mean time, this coming Thursday many of us are going to the Mira Mea Senior Center - see "Dance This Thursday" email for details about that). We thanked Tessie and Cathy for allowing us to dance at Point Point Joint, after they took over from Lydia last September.

LINE DANCING was non-stop from 6pm to 7pm, including the popular "BACHATA RISMA", above. Who is in front?  Well, it was the only 1st-timer of the night, Myrna, next was Edith and on the right it was Tess.

BALLROOM DANCES.  As always, we guys prefered the ballroom dances.  Above, Lito and Neriza danced to "Tango Erotica."

CUMBIA.  Gloria was back, testing her knee which has been bothering her.  Above, she danced with Lou to the cumbia "Piel Morena"

FLORITA was welcomed back.  She took off to live in Cebu, Philippines, with her husband about a year ago. Last week she was back in San Diego on "vacation", just in time for the last dance at Point Point Joint.  Above she was dancing with Gloria to "La Cumparsita" tango.

"RUNAWAY" LINE DANCE with Edith, Dolores and Beth in the front line, sort of.

"CABALLERO" LINE DANCE with Rima, front and center.

SAMBA, I think.  Above, Eden & Tito were dancing to "Bailando".

BAKIT PA SINGERS.  Gloria, Lou, Eva and Rima exuberantly and emotionally sang "Bakit Pa?" ("Why?") at full volume.  The recording features a young lady who is sad that her boyfriend is leaving her.

HEIDI is (or at least was) President of the Aklan Association of San Diego.  I got to dance with her to a song I like, the silly "Ooo Poo Pah Doo".

NEVER CAN SAY GOODBYE.  It was late, but never too late for a last photo of most dancers who were still in the Joint at the end.

There have been really fun dance parties most every Thursday night at Point Point Joint since 2011.  But, Point Point Joint, National City, supposedly closes today, after over 30 years of serving great food, so here's the plan for next week:

Thursday  Mar. 3, 2016  5:30pm-10pm, Mira Mesa Senior Center, 8460 Mira Mesa Blvd., San Diego 92126. (see "Dance This Thursday" email for info about that)

Hoping to see you on the dance floor this coming Thursday,

Dance This Thursday Mar. 3, 2016, at Mira Mesa Senior Center

Hi Dancers!
It's Thursday night dancing this Thursday March 3, 2016, at the Mira Mesa Senior Center, San Diego CA 92126.  FREE admission.  FREE water.  This is your invitation for non-stop line dancing from 5:30pm - 7pm, and then from 7pm - 10pm it will be mixed ballroom (swing, cha cha, rumba, salsa, etc., etc.), plus line dancing.  DJ:  Nickie ("Nikko") Bascos, Jr.  (Note: Point Point Joint, National City, is closing.)

DIRECTIONS to the Mira Mesa Senior Center, San Diego CA 92126:  It's best to get on I-15 and exit onto Mira Mesa Blvd, and go west about 1.6 miles.  The Mira Mesa Senior Center will be on the right, across Mira Mesa Blvd from a big parking lot for Mira Mesa High School.  There are no signs clearly visible from the street (see "Street View" below.), so watch for a little driveway about a tenth of a mile west of New Salem Street.  (If you drive past the driveway, the next intersection is Camino Ruiz, where you can U-turn, and try again.)

Hi Again Dancers,

LAST THURSDAY'S DANCE PARTY AT POINT POINT JOINT (FEBRUARY 18, 2016):

LINE DANCING was non-stop from 6pm to 7pm, including "QUIZAS SI QUIZAS NO", a nice bachata line dance.  Above, who is in front?  DJs Bing & Mel, with Beth on the right.

BALLROOM DANCES.  We guys prefer the ballroom dances.  We managed to lure Point Point's co-owner Cathy onto the dance floor.  Above, Ruben danced with Cathy, while line dancers danced to the rumba line dance, "Colors Of The Wind."

SALSA.  My favorite salsa came on - "Mi Bom Bon".  I wanted to dance with Elma, but DJ Mel got there first.

LITO & JEAN, above, were also dancing to "Mi Bom Bon".

RUMBA and NIGHT CLUB TWO-STEP dances were popular, including "My Love For You", danced above by first-timer Ben and Neriza.

FLASHBACK 4 YEARS AGO TO FEB. 23, 2012:

P.S. Other Notes: (1) These are considered private parties, and this is your invitation to members of the email group to enjoy dancing in Point Point Joint Restaurant, 916 E. 8th Street, National City, a mere four miles from downtown San Diego.  While the dancing is continuous at these dances, in case you do not know the easy steps used for a particular dance, ask me & I'll get someone to give you a free dance lesson while the music plays.  Hmmm - I bet the simultaneous instructions while others dance make these, for example, the best merengue lessons in San Diego.
