Dance at Eastlake in Chula Vista This Thursday March 31, 2016

Hello Dancers,

Ruben arranged for Thursday night dancing in the Eastlake 1 association's Pavilion Clubhouse at 2050 Lakeshore Drive, Chula Vista 91913 from 6-10pm, to get us back on the dance floor after a week's break.  FREE admission.  FREE parking.  FREE snacks.  FREE beverages.  DJ Bing will play line dances 6pm-7pm, followed by mixed ballroom and line dancing until 10pm.  DIRECTIONS:  Take the H Street East exit off 805. Go east on H Street (for about 5 miles).  Turn right onto Eastlake Drive (a lighted intersection).  Go about a block and turn right onto Lakeshore Drive. Then, turn left immediately into parking lot - the Pavilion is beyond the white gate.
In Mira Mesa, renovation of the Senior Center will put Thursday night dancers into the nearby Mira Mesa Rec Center, 8575 New Salem Street for about 3 months.  But, dancing will end there at 8:45pm on Thursday nights.

Anyway, below are photos of the Eastlake 1 Pavilion clubhouse, PLUS looking back a few years - Flashback photos of Thursday night dancing.  (Note: If the following 6 photos do not appear when you look at this email, click the words at the top of this email that say something like "Show images which are still blocked to protect your privacy" - I already know who you are):

Above, outside the Pavilion.

Above, looking into the Pavilion's dance floor.

FLASHBACK PHOTOS - LOOKING BACK OVER 4 YEARS OF THURSDAY NIGHT DANCING.

4 YEARS AGO.  Eva and Dwayne were dancing a rumba, maybe "Esta Noche" on Thursday April 12, 2012, in Point Point Joint.

3 YEARS AGO.  Line dancers doing the "Wobble" at the Saint Patricks Dance Party in Point Point on March 14, 2013.

2 YEARS AGO.  Edith and Estrelle were in the front line for "Almost Jamaica" on March 20, 2014, in Point Point.

1 YEAR AGO.  Lito and Lou were dancing "Blue Tango" on March 26, 2015, in Point Point.

Here's the plan for the next few weeks for Thursday night dances:

Thursday, March 31, 2016. Two nighttime dances:  (1) In Chula Vista, dancing 6pm-10pm at the Eastlake 1 Pavilion clubhouse, 2050 Lakeshore Drive, Chula Vista CA 91913. DJ Bing Villafuerte.   (2) Dance The Night Away up till 8:45pm in the Mira Mesa Recreation Center, 8575 New Salem St.  DJ Nickie Bascos, Jr.

Thursday, April 7, 2016:   Dancing 6pm-10pm at the Eastlake 1 Pavilion clubhouse, 2050 Lakeshore Drive, Chula Vista CA 91913.

It's a fun dance party most every Thursday night with line dances and ballroom dances like swing including Manila Swing (also known as 4-count hustle or Philippine swing or Filipino swing), cha cha, night club 2-step, tango and much much more.

Hoping to see you on the dance floor,
Bert & Edith
619-224-3095 (house phone)

P.S. Other Notes: (1) These are really fun ballroom and line dance parties.  This is Thursday night dancing in San Diego.  While the dancing is continuous, there are dancers who are happy to give free dance one-on-one lessons during the dances, in case you don't know the steps of a particular dance.  Hmmm - I bet the simultaneous instructions while others are dancing make these, for example, the best merengue lessons in San Diego.

No Dance This Thursday, March 24, 2016 - It's Holy Thursday

Hello Dancers,
In observance of Holy Thursday we have no dance plans for next Thursday night.  I hope you have a Good Friday and joyful Easter next Sunday.  We hope to see you Thursday night March 31st.

It was a fabulous GREEN St. Patricks Day Dance Party last Thursday night March 17, 2016, at the Mira Mesa Senior Center, 8460 Mira Mesa Blvd, San Diego CA 92126.  LOTS of FREE food courtesy of people like Nick & Eden (spaghetti, salad & more), Romy & Marilyn (guacamole & chips), Josie & the other Romy (macaroni salad), Gigi & Rei (empanadas), Edith (chicken), and lots of other goodies.  DJ Nickie Bascos, Jr., played for over 50 happy dancers till past 10pm.  The following 7 photos tell part of the story.          (Note: If the following photos do not appear when you look at this email, click the words at the top of this email that say something like "Show images which are still blocked to protect your privacy" - I already know who you are):

THURSDAY, MARCH 17, 2016, at MIRA MESA SR. CENTER ST. PATRICK'S DAY DANCE:

LINE DANCING was well-attended between 5:30-7pm.  Above, dancing "Carinito", a favorite for about 3 years now, it was Eden, Edith and Val in the front line.

BOOGIE.  Above it was Elsa and Val dancing "Rock Around The Clock".  Val often goes dancing in clubs in Metro Manila - like dancing in Savannah Moon in Quezon City.

CHA CHA.  Tess had fun dancing with Mel (not DJ Mel, but the other Mel) to the cha cha "Corazon Espinaldo".

LADIES IN DISGUISE WITH GLASSES.  Rei and Gigi and Lou besides enjoying the food were celebrating Rei's hubby Mark's recent promotion to Navy Admiral (well, probably to Rear Admiral).

CUMBIA.  Well, I think Elma and Lito were dancing the cumbia "Amor Ala Mexicana".

TODO TODO LINE DANCE.  I call it the Philippine National Line Dance.  Rima, Nedy and Eden were in the front line dancing "Todo Todo Todo", the "new" version.

BORRACHO Y LOCO.  The night would not be complete without "Bachata Risma" (aka "borracho y loco").  Above, Lisa, Neriza and Sophie were in the front line.

Here's the plan for the next few weeks:

Thursday, March 24, 2016:  Holy Thursday.  No dance is planned.

Thursday, March 31, 2016. Two nighttime dances:  While Dance The Night Away will take place, maybe in an adjacent building at Mira Mesa Sr. Center, there will also be dancing in South San Diego County:  Rubin has arranged for dancing 6pm-10pm at the Eastlake 1 Pavilion clubhouse, 2050 Lakeshore Drive, Chula Vista CA 91913.

Thursday, April 7, 2016:  Dance The Night Away at Mira Mesa Sr. Center, 8460 Mira Mesa Blvd., San Diego.  5:30pm-10pm

It's a fun dance party most every Thursday night with line dances and ballroom dances like swing including Manila Swing (also known as 4-count hustle or Philippine swing or Filipino swing), cha cha, night club 2-step, tango and much much more.  Well, this week is one of the weeks with no Thursday night dance.  See above for March 31st.

Hoping to see you on the dance floor then,
Bert & Edith

Last Thursday, March 10, 2016, was the 2nd Thursday this year that many former Point Point Jointers went to Thursday's Dance The Night Away at the Mira Mesa Senior Center.  DJ Bing Villafuerte kept the great music going for about 35 dancers till 10pm.  Eight photos below tell part of the story.

THURSDAY, MARCH 10, 2016, at MIRA MESA SR. CENTER:

LINE DANCING was a ladies' favorite, of course.  Above Esta and Heidi were in the front line for "Simplemente".

BALLROOM dancing is what most of us guys liked.  Above, Neriza and Jerry danced to the cha cha "La Muchachita".

MERENGUE.  Florita and Gloria had fun above dancing to the merengue "Luna Llena".

DJ BING was busy picking great-sounding songs.

PANCIT ( a whole tray of it) was provided by Nick and Dolores.  They posed for me.

BLACK AND WHITE was eye-catching on Elma as she line danced above.

CABALLERO is still a line dance favorite.  Evelyn, Josie and Edith were in the front line above for "Caballero".

RUMBA - Above, Tess and I danced to my favorite rumba, "Carino Mio".

Here's the plan for the next few weeks:

Manolo Hernandez - Our Friend Has Died

Hello Dancers,
It was with sadness that I got word of Manolo's sudden and surprising passing yesterday.  Manolo and Patty had been regulars at Point Point Joint Thursday night dances for over a year.  Both Patty and Manolo were at the Feb. 25th dance at Point Point Joint.  Patty and Manolo were two of the very most cheerful dancers, and the dances were always more joyous when they were there.
Edith and I - and I am sure all the Thursday night dancers - sincerely mourn Manolo's passing, and we offer condolences to Patty and family and friends.  I will send information about funeral or memorial services when I learn the information.

PATTY and MANOLO dancing merengue above at Point Point Joint on Thursday September 3, 2015.

MANOLO will be missed.  The above announcement was in Facebook.

Dance Again This Thursday Mar. 10, 2016, at Mira Mesa Senior Center, 8460 Mira Mesa Blvd, San Diego

Hi Dancers!
It'll be more dancing this Thursday night March 10, 2016, at the Mira Mesa Senior Center, 8460 Mira Mesa Blvd, San Diego CA 92126.  FREE admission.  FREE water.  This is your invitation for non-stop line dancing from 5:30pm - 7pm, and then from 7pm - 10pm it will be mixed ballroom (swing, cha cha, rumba, salsa, etc., etc.), plus line dancing.  DJ: Bing Villafuerte .  (Note: Point Point Joint, National City, is closing.)

Last Thursday, March 3, 2016, many former Point Point Jointers went to the Thursday night Dance The Night Away at the Mira Mesa Senior Center.  Although Thursday night dancing has been going on there since November, few of the Point Point Jointers had been to Dance The Night Away since November.  Anyway, DJ Nickie Bascos, Jr., kept the great music going for over 40 dancers till 10pm.  Five photos below tell part of the story.

THURSDAY, MARCH 3, 2016, at MIRA MESA SR. CENTER:

DANCING IN THE CIRCLE were Nene, Edith and Florita to "I Will Survive".

FOX TROT dancing to "The Way You Look Tonight", it was Allison and Lane enjoying the night.

HEIDI and JERRY also enjoyed the fox trot.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!  It was a little birthday party for Florita (in blue), while she was still on "vacation" in San Diego from her home in Cebu, Philippines.

LINE DANCES were in abundance, including long-time favorite "Bachata Risma" (aka "Borracho Y Loco").  Who's in front?  Lou, Edith (yes, there are 2 Ediths in the photo), and Nitz were in the front line.

FLASHBACK - 3 MONTHS AGO (NOV. 5, 2015) - MIRA MESA SR. CENTER

OPENING NIGHT for Thursday nights' "Dance The Night Away" was November 5, 2015, a mere three months ago, and several Point Point Jointers dropped in.  Above, dancers were doing the Waltz Line Dance.

Hoping to see you on the dance floor this coming Thursday,
Bert & Edith

It Was Great While It Lasted

Hello Dancers!
Last Tuesday we learned that Point Point Joint closes and becomes Poke Etc this weekend, so we hastily re-named last Thursday's dance as the "See You Again Dance Party".  And it was a wonderful and memorable night, with 45 Thursday night dancers, some who we had not seen in a year. DJ Bing Villafuerte played the music.

The eleven photos below tell part of the story of a very memorable night.

(Note: If the following photos do not appear when you look at this email, click the words at the top of this email that say something like "Show images which are still blocked to protect your privacy" - I already know who you are):

LAST THURSDAY'S DANCE PARTY AT POINT POINT JOINT (FEBRUARY 25, 2016):

TESSIE TALKED, kind of reluctantly, after we convinced her to tell us about the sudden change to Poke Etc.  She said she and Cathy become co-partners with Ofelia, who runs three Poke Etc restaurants in the L.A. area.  So, Point Point Joint will supposedly become Poke Etc.  Renovations will go on for a week or so.  Tessie hopes that Thursday night dancing can return (but in the mean time, this coming Thursday many of us are going to the Mira Mea Senior Center - see "Dance This Thursday" email for details about that). We thanked Tessie and Cathy for allowing us to dance at Point Point Joint, after they took over from Lydia last September.

LINE DANCING was non-stop from 6pm to 7pm, including the popular "BACHATA RISMA", above. Who is in front?  Well, it was the only 1st-timer of the night, Myrna, next was Edith and on the right it was Tess.

BALLROOM DANCES.  As always, we guys prefered the ballroom dances.  Above, Lito and Neriza danced to "Tango Erotica."

CUMBIA.  Gloria was back, testing her knee which has been bothering her.  Above, she danced with Lou to the cumbia "Piel Morena"

FLORITA was welcomed back.  She took off to live in Cebu, Philippines, with her husband about a year ago. Last week she was back in San Diego on "vacation", just in time for the last dance at Point Point Joint.  Above she was dancing with Gloria to "La Cumparsita" tango.

"RUNAWAY" LINE DANCE with Edith, Dolores and Beth in the front line, sort of.

"CABALLERO" LINE DANCE with Rima, front and center.

SAMBA, I think.  Above, Eden & Tito were dancing to "Bailando".

BAKIT PA SINGERS.  Gloria, Lou, Eva and Rima exuberantly and emotionally sang "Bakit Pa?" ("Why?") at full volume.  The recording features a young lady who is sad that her boyfriend is leaving her.

HEIDI is (or at least was) President of the Aklan Association of San Diego.  I got to dance with her to a song I like, the silly "Ooo Poo Pah Doo".

NEVER CAN SAY GOODBYE.  It was late, but never too late for a last photo of most dancers who were still in the Joint at the end.

There have been really fun dance parties most every Thursday night at Point Point Joint since 2011.  But, Point Point Joint, National City, supposedly closes today, after over 30 years of serving great food, so here's the plan for next week:

Thursday  Mar. 3, 2016  5:30pm-10pm, Mira Mesa Senior Center, 8460 Mira Mesa Blvd., San Diego 92126. (see "Dance This Thursday" email for info about that)

Hoping to see you on the dance floor this coming Thursday,
Bert & Edith

Dance This Thursday Mar. 3, 2016, at Mira Mesa Senior Center

Hi Dancers!
It's Thursday night dancing this Thursday March 3, 2016, at the Mira Mesa Senior Center, San Diego CA 92126.  FREE admission.  FREE water.  This is your invitation for non-stop line dancing from 5:30pm - 7pm, and then from 7pm - 10pm it will be mixed ballroom (swing, cha cha, rumba, salsa, etc., etc.), plus line dancing.  DJ:  Nickie ("Nikko") Bascos, Jr.  (Note: Point Point Joint, National City, is closing.)

DIRECTIONS to the Mira Mesa Senior Center, San Diego CA 92126:  It's best to get on I-15 and exit onto Mira Mesa Blvd, and go west about 1.6 miles.  The Mira Mesa Senior Center will be on the right, across Mira Mesa Blvd from a big parking lot for Mira Mesa High School.  There are no signs clearly visible from the street (see "Street View" below.), so watch for a little driveway about a tenth of a mile west of New Salem Street.  (If you drive past the driveway, the next intersection is Camino Ruiz, where you can U-turn, and try again.)

Hi Again Dancers,
Please come to the "See You Again Dance Party" at Point Point Joint this Thursday (Feb. 25, 2016).  Cathy and Tessie are turning Point Point Joint over to the owners of Poke Etc Restaurants this weekend, (and there will be no dance the following Thursday March 3rd), so please come and say "Thank you" and "See you again" to our friends.  There will be plenty of complimentary snacks, plus the usual $8 entrance and $5 buffet food line.  DJ Bing will be playing his most fabulous music from 6pm-10pm.  We anticipate a joyous night.  916 E. 8th Street, National City.

Dance this Thursday Feb. 25, 2016, at Point Point Joint

Hello You Dancers!
It'll be another fun Dance Party this coming Thursday night Feb. 25, 2016, at Point Point Joint, 916 E. 8th Street, National City.  $8 to enter. The delicious dinner buffet line food is from $5, and it includes a soda or a water bottle.  This is your invitation for non-stop line dancing from 6pm - 7pm, and then from 7pm - 10pm it will be mixed ballroom (swing, cha cha, rumba, salsa, etc., etc.), plus line dancing.  The phenomenal DJ Bing will play.

At last Thursday's Dance Party, 25 happy dancers enjoyed the music of DJ Mel Zaragoza again.  Five photos below tell part of the fun story.

(Note: If the following photos do not appear when you look at this email, click the words at the top of this email that say something like "Show images which are still blocked to protect your privacy" - I already know who you are):

LAST THURSDAY'S DANCE PARTY AT POINT POINT JOINT (FEBRUARY 18, 2016):

LINE DANCING was non-stop from 6pm to 7pm, including "QUIZAS SI QUIZAS NO", a nice bachata line dance.  Above, who is in front?  DJs Bing & Mel, with Beth on the right.

BALLROOM DANCES.  We guys prefer the ballroom dances.  We managed to lure Point Point's co-owner Cathy onto the dance floor.  Above, Ruben danced with Cathy, while line dancers danced to the rumba line dance, "Colors Of The Wind."

SALSA.  My favorite salsa came on - "Mi Bom Bon".  I wanted to dance with Elma, but DJ Mel got there first.

LITO & JEAN, above, were also dancing to "Mi Bom Bon".

RUMBA and NIGHT CLUB TWO-STEP dances were popular, including "My Love For You", danced above by first-timer Ben and Neriza.

FLASHBACK 4 YEARS AGO TO FEB. 23, 2012:

LINE DANCERS enjoyed dancing to 'I'M ALIVE' on Thursday night, February 23, 2012, in Point Point Joint.

It's a really fun dance party most every Thursday night at Point Point Joint with line dances and ballroom dances like swing including Manila Swing (also known as 4-count hustle or Philippine swing or Filipino swing), cha cha, night club 2-step, tango and much much more.

Here's the plan for the next few weeks at Point Point:

Thursday  Feb. 25, 2016  6-10pm, DJ Bing Villafuerte

Thursday  Mar. 3, 2016  6-10pm, DJ Mel Zaragoza

Thursday  Mar. 10, 2016  6-10pm, DJ Bing Villafuerte

Thursday  Mar. 17, 2016  6-10pm, ST. PATRICK'S DAY DANCE PARTY, DJ Mel Zaragoza

Hoping to see you on the dance floor this coming Thursday,
Bert & Edith
619-224-3095 (house phone)

P.S. Other Notes: (1) These are considered private parties, and this is your invitation to members of the email group to enjoy dancing in Point Point Joint Restaurant, 916 E. 8th Street, National City, a mere four miles from downtown San Diego.  While the dancing is continuous at these dances, in case you do not know the easy steps used for a particular dance, ask me & I'll get someone to give you a free dance lesson while the music plays.  Hmmm - I bet the simultaneous instructions while others dance make these, for example, the best merengue lessons in San Diego.

(2)  You can click on Links to many YouTube MUSIC VIDEOS and other websites that are mentioned in this email (the links are colored like this of "Quizas Si, Quizas No" line dance).   And, see websites like: this email group's Home Page and Upcoming Events.
