Caballero by Orchestra Mario Riccardi is Favorite on its First Night

Hello Dancers,
Well last Thursday was a first.  "Caballero" by Orchestra Mario Riccardi was played about five times!!  It seems that all the San Diego Fil-Am line dance groups are learning it.  Tonight Nina's group will get special lessons on it at Point Point from 7pm - 9pm courtesy of Dante from the Bay Terraces Seniors (Tooma Park Seniors).  Looking on YouTube, it seems like choreographer Ira Weisburd posted videos of Caballero Line Dance about 8 months ago.  The songs beautiful arrangement must be part of the reason that there are now about 100 YouTube videos of different line dance groups dancing it!!  Here are two of my favorite YouTube line dancers doing "Caballero", Senipadu down in Malaysia, and Juliet Lam in California, I think.  "Caballero" is available for downloading; it was on a album called "La Barca", apparently released in 2010.  Since the song is sung in Italian, I'm looking for someone who speaks Italian to translate the lyrics.
"Hands Up" by Ottawan was also introduced at Point Point on Thursday, too.  There are not as many YouTube videos of "Hands Up" (click for video) but I like this one which is being danced somewhere in Asia.   "Hands Up", out of France, was popular world-wide back in 1981-1982.
Those two line dances join a bunch of other ones recorded in other countries or languages that we dance to:  "Tennessee Waltz" by Ireen Sheer, "Simplemente" by Chayanne, "Todo Todo Todo" by Daniela Romo, "Memory" by Ross Mitchell Band, "Rivers Of Babylon" by Boney M, "Mamma Maria" by Ricchi & Poveri, "Mega Mambo" by Athos & Mancini, "Coco Jamboo" by Mr. President, "If You Wanna Be Happy" by Dr. Victor, "Chilly Cha Cha" by Jessica Jay, "Levantando Las Manos" by El Simbolo, and "Under the Sun" by Tim Tim (I presume Tim Tim recorded in Europe).

Till we dance again,

Valentine Dances Coming Soon!

 Valentine Dances Coming Soon!

San Diego Fil-Am dancers will have a variety of Valentine Dance Parties to choose from.  Details below.

Hello Dancers,

TUESDAY NIGHT LINE DANCING WITH NINA at Point Point continues.  Lately, the  favorites of the Tuesday night line dancers at Point Point have been  "There's a Kind of Hush", "Almost Jamaica", and "It's My Soul".
FOR UPCOMING TUESDAYS (like Jan 24th & 31st), you can join the fun in Point Point's Ocean Java Room, 916 E. 8th Street, National City, 6:30-9:00, when Nina normally leads us through fun line dances.  But, NOT TUESDAY FEB 7th - Point Point will be reserved that night for another large private party.

THURSDAY NIGHT DANCING AT POINT POINT continues.  DJ Leo and Penny are reportedly still in the Philippines.   Anyway, we're playing lots of cha cha - "Place In My Heart" (the YouTube video at this link seems to indicate that the song was in a Marilyn Monroe documentary) is either becoming or seeing a resurgence as a cha cha favorite - night club 2-steps - "Sinta" and "Yo Te Amo" get everyone on the floor - and swing, merengue, and the waltz line dance are favorites with about 30 in attendance each Thursday.  As for line dances, "Tennessee Waltz", "Rivers Of Babylon" and "Todo Todo Todo" usually fill the floor.
As Mel Zaragoza and I alternate filling in as DJs for Leo, we invite you to dance on Thursdays at Point Point every Thursday night into February, i.e, January 26th, February 2nd, 9th & 16th, and on.  Where:  On the main floor at Point Point, 916 E. 8th Street, National City.   Non-Stop Party dancing:  6:00-10 PM.

VALENTINE DANCE PARTIES include:  (a) Thursday February 9th Valentine's Dance Party and Coronations sponsored by Bay Terraces Fil-Am Seniors Assn (aka Tooma Park Seniors) at St. John of the Cross Catholic Church Hall.  (b) Also, a dance party at Point Point that night.  (c) Friday, February 10th Valentines Dinner and Dance at 32nd Street, and (d) Saturday, February 11th Valentines Dance, at St Rose of Lima Parish Hall. See Upcoming Events Website for more details.

FRIDAY NIGHT DANCING:  There are about five almost-every-Friday night Fil-Am dance parties in the San Diego area, including 32nd St Dance Group, Dancesation at Infinity, RMX, Red Hot Line Dancers, and the Dance Fusion Social Club.  FOR MORE INFO ON THOSE AND MORE DANCE CHOICES, see Weekly Dance Events website.

PHOTOS.  Here's 4 of 29 photos posted at the sites listed below.  These are from late December through January 19th (if these 4 photos are not displayed in this email, click "Show Images" near top of this email):

First of all, we see DJ Dwayne of Gapo and Jestoni club fame dancing with Celia on Thursday December 29th at Point Point.

Next, we see Nina leading a lot of line dancers through "There's A Kind Of Hush" at Point Point on Thursday Jan 12th.

Then, later that same night we see Zeny and Bert Alota dancing to a bolero.

And, last but not least, it's Jun and Jona dancing near the end of our January 19th dance party at Point Point.

I put those four photos plus 25 other photos from the past several weeks in the ForeverYoungSD Yahoo Group Photos section into the '2011 December' and '2012 January' folders.  For those of you who prefer the big screen image quality and other features of Google's Picasa Web Albums (no log-in required), and you who are non-Yahoo members, see the photos posted at

New Links to Picasa Photo Albums

Hello Dancers,

I'll put usable links in my new e-mails.  If you want to read tedious details, read on:

In December, Google decided to make Picasa users log in to Google in order to see the photos in Google's Picasa web photo albums.  Google was urging people to switch to Google+ albums, a vastly inferior photo album service.  There was a big uproar over that on the Picasa forums!!  (I'm sure Google would disagree with my analysis, but anyway what I'm saying is what I believe to be true.)

Most Picasa album users do NOT want to get a Google account and log in (as people must do for Yahoo and Facebook).  So, Google slightly relented.  At least for the moment, there are alternate URL links to take you directly to Picasa on line photo albums without the need to log in to Google.

For the December 2011 album, use
https://picasaweb.google.com/103176925923805337179/2011December?noredirect=1

For January 2012 album, use:
https://picasaweb.google.com/103176925923805337179/2012January?noredirect=1

By the way, these photos go with the ForeverYoungSD group emails that I email on occasion.  Direct access (without log in to Google) to all the older albums going back to 2009 in the Jestoni Bistro was also blocked in December 2011, but you can still see them once you get to any of my Picasa albums using the above links.  Just click on my name (Bert Donaldson) and all the older album titles & cover photos will appear.

As before, I put the same photos in the "Photos" section of the ForeverYoungSD Yahoo Group using the same album names as in Picasa.  (Yahoo, like Facebook, requires an account & password to see photo albums on their services.)

I'm gradually learning Picasa's good points (yeah - just when Google decides to muck it up).  Image quality is better - minimal image distortion.  You can easily get to a largely full screen slideshow by hitting "slideshow".  To stop in mid-show and see the photo title, hit "Esc" (Escape), click on the photo tile and the photo title, etc., appears in a panel on the right, for most computers.  To resume slideshow, click on "Full Screen", then click on the Play button at the bottom.  In some cases, merely clicking "Esc" will bring up a photo's title, etc.

Till we dance again, best wishes,

Bert

Christmas Dance at Point Point This Week

Dancing on both Tuesday and Thursday nights this week at Point Point will have Christmas themes.  Details below.

Hello Dancers,

TUESDAY NIGHT LINE DANCING at Point Point - As the ladies dance their way towards the end of the year, they have really been enthusiastic about line dances that are relatively new to Nina's line dancers, "Almost Jamaica", "I'm Alive" and "There's a Kind of Hush".  And, I must mention the seasonal favorite "Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree".  "It's My Soul" and "Rivers Of Babylon" line dances, both introduced to Nina's group in 2011, also got lots of practice in the past few weeks.  Some of those dances were also performed as special demonstrations in some of the holiday parties around town over the past few weeks.
FOR UPCOMING TUESDAYS (like Dec 20th and Dec 27th and into January).  Speaking of holiday parties, this Tuesday Dec 20th will be Nina's line dancers' Christmas party, perhaps featuring more food and laughter than dancing.   In any case, you can join the fun in Point Point's Ocean Java Room, 916 E. 8th Street, National City, 6:30-9:00, when Nina normally leads us through fun line dances.

THURSDAY NIGHT DANCING AT POINT POINT.  Our thoughts and prayers go with Penny and Leo as they are off to the Philippines in the wake of the passing of Penny's brother.  With disastrous flooding in Mindanao in the past few days, it's not the best time to go to the Philippines.  Meanwhile, on the dance floor at Point Point on Thursdays, dancers have been enjoying line dances, swing, cha cha, salsa, bachata, merengue, waltz and more, with about 25 in attendance each Thursday.  The night club 2-step dances "Sinta" and "Yo Te Amo" continue to be top favorites.  Line dancers clamor for "Almost Jamaica", which is relatively new to Thursday nights.  The beautiful rumba "Esta Noche" and the hip hop "Family Affair" have been well-received lately.
CHRISTMAS DANCE at Point Point this Thursday (Dec 22nd), so wear your festive holiday dancing clothes.  As I fill in as DJ for Leo, we invite you to dance on Thursdays at Point Point probably every Thursday into January, i.e, December 22nd, Dec 29th, Jan 5th, and on.  Where:  On the main floor at Point Point, 916 E. 8th Street, National City.   Party dancing:  6:00-10 PM.

FOR MORE INFO ON THOSE AND MORE DANCE CHOICES, see Weekly Dance Events website (see my comment about that website below).

PHOTOS.  With a camera working nicely last week, all 3 of these are from Dec 15th (if these 3 photos do not pop up, click "Show Images" near top of this email):
First of all, we see line dancers like Celia, Marylou and Penny in front on … What was it?  Maybe "Acabo De Llegar" salsa line dance on Thursday December 15th at Point Point.

Next, we see Rei dancing with Bert Ignacio (I think), maybe to a night club 2-step, again on Thursday Dec 15th.

Then, around 8:45pm there were several dancers enjoying what seems to be "Family Affair" hip hop song.

I put those three photos plus 20 other photos from the past week in the ForeverYoungSD Yahoo Group Photos section into the '2011 December' folder.  For those of you who prefer the big screen image quality and other features of Google's Picasa Web Albums, and you who are non-Yahoo members, the December photos are also posted at

Western Night This Week at Point Point But No Spin City Wednesday

Filipino Hillbilly Costume Dance this Thursday at Point Point. Fil-Am Dance Wednesdays at Spin City ended. Details below.

Hello Dancers,

TUESDAY NIGHT LINE DANCING at Point Point - Claire, a newcomer to Tuesday night line dancing, joined the line dancers Oct 25th.  They had lots of fun dancing mostly line dances that are new to the group, like "Rivers Of Babylon", "Mega Mambo", "Stuck On You", and "Acabo De Llegar" (a Salsa Line Dance).
FOR UPCOMING TUESDAYS (like today Nov 1st, and Nov 8th) you can join the fun in Point Point's Ocean Java Room, 916 E. 8th Street, National City, 6:30-9:00, when Nina will lead us through fun line dances.

WEDNESDAY NIGHT FIL-AM DANCING at Spin City Lounge with DJ Ernie's it Music Factory came to an end last Wednesday (Oct 26th), completing a 5-week engagement.  Spin City management wanted more people. Nevertheless, the 15 dancers in attendance last Wednesday had a rousing good time.  After another Paul Garcia dance lesson, it was swing like "On The Floor", samba like "La Isla Bonita", line dances like "Tennessee Waltz", and many more until 11pm.  So, for the first time in about 2 years, there seems to be no weekly Wednesday night Fil-Am dance in the San Diego area.

THURSDAY NIGHT DANCING at Point Point.   Wear Western Country attire for "Filipino Hillbilly Night" this Thursday Nov 3rd at Point Point.  This follows last week's (Oct 27th) big Halloween Costume Dance Party at Point Point.  I think Ernie Tactay had the most concealing costume, as a 70's hippie - I couldn't recognize him.  DJ Leo kept about 50 dancers moving.  As usual the dances between 8-9pm packed the floor, dances like "Ave Maria Lola" (salsa), "Crazy Little Thing Called Love " (boogie), and even "Blue Tango".  And the line dancers packed the floor on "Stuck On You", "Under The Sun", and "Coco Jamboo".  But, percentage-wise, "The Right Thing We Do" (Waltz Line Dance) won the night - it got almost everyone still in Point Point on the floor at quitting time.
YOU Are Invited to Western Night.   Where & when: Thursday November 3rd, on the main floor at Point Point, 916 E. 8th Street, National City.   Party dancing:  6:30-10 PM.

FRIDAY NIGHT DANCING:  There are about five every-Friday night Fil-Am dance parties in the San Diego area, including 32nd St Dance Group, Dancesation at Infinity, RMX, Red Hot Line Dancers, and the Dance Fusion Social Club.  FOR MORE INFO ON THOSE AND MORE DANCE CHOICES, see Weekly Dance Events website.

PHOTOS (if these 2 photos do not pop up, click "Show Images" near top of this email):
First of all, we see Edith R and Irma in front of "It's My Soul" line dancers on Wednesday October 26th at Spin City.

Then, at we see Rei and DJ Leo dancing to "Blue Tango" on Thursday  October 27th at the Halloween Costume Dance Party.

I put those two photos plus 14 other photos from the past week in the ForeverYoungSD Yahoo Group Photos section into the '2011 October' folder.  For those of you who prefer the big screen image quality and other features of Google's Picasa Web Albums, and you who are non-Yahoo members, the October photos are also posted at

TUESDAY NIGHT LINE DANCING at Point Point - The ladies keep having fun.  During the past two weeks they've enjoyed polishing their steps for "Rivers Of Babylon", "Mega Mambo", "Stuck On You", "It's My Soul", the Salsa Line Dance, and a couple more new ones - "Best Of My Love" and "Upside Down".   Rory, a well-known dancer at the Fil-Am dances, joined the dancers on Tuesday Oct 16th.
FOR UPCOMING TUESDAYS (like tomorrow Oct 25th and Nov 1st) you can join the fun in Point Point's Ocean Java Room, 916 E. 8th Street, National City, 6:30-9:00, when Nina will lead us through fun line dances.

WEDNESDAY NIGHT DANCING at Spin City Lounge.  Close to 15 dancers have enjoyed the dance lessons, social dancing and heavy hors d'oeuvres the last two Wednesdays, Oct 12th and 19th.  Dance Instructor Paul Garcia has mostly taught West Coast Swing for two weeks.  Then, we go between the food tables and the dance floor while DJ Ernie plays dance favorites like, "It's My Soul" (line dance), "Right Thing We Do" (waltz line dance), "Suavemente" (merengue), and "I Will Always Love You" (swing).
All are invited to "Ballroom & Disco Dancing" (and line dancing) with DJ Ernie at Spin City 618 E Street, Suite H, Chula Vista, Wednesday nights like this Wednesday Oct 26th.  Spin City management says more dancers are needed, so why not try it this week.  Admission is $5 for Paul Garcia's dance lesson from 7-8pm, and $5 for "Ballroom & Disco Dancing" from 8-11pm.

THURSDAY NIGHT DANCING AT POINT POINT.  Dancers loved a night jam-packed with line dances Oct 13th, and they took a one-week break last Thursday.  But, THIS THURSDAY Oct 27th Leo and Penny invite us all to the gala HALLOWEEN COSTUME DANCE PARTY.  There'll be a lot of dancing to songs that are fast - like swing & merengue - and slow - like "Sinta" and "Esta Noche" - so choose your costume appropriately.
Where & when: Thursday October 27th, on the main floor at Point Point, 916 E.

Well, I missed the fun at Point Point, so most of my photos are from Spin City.  First of all, we see Jona and Jun enjoying a dance on Wednesday October 12th.

Then, at we see Lucy and DJ Ernie enjoying a cha cha on Wednesday  October 19th.

No Point Point Dancing Oct 20 - Halloween Party on Oct 27

Hello Dancers,
No Thursday night dancing at Point Point Oct 20, BUT BIG HALLOWEEN COSTUME PARTY Thurs night Oct 27 at Point Point.

Dancers decided to give themselves a week off this coming Thursday October 20th at Point Point after nine straight months of Thursday night dancing at Point Point!  They'll use the time off to get their costumes ready for the BIG HALLOWEEN COSTUME PARTY on the following Thursday October 27th at Point Point, 916 East 8th Street, National City, beginning at 6:30pm.  Leo and Penny invite you all to show up Thursday October 27th and have a dancing good time with ballroom dances (swing, cha cha, merengue, night club 2-step, salsa, tango and more) plus LINE DANCING.

Line dancers were in abundance this past Thursday (October 13th) and guys were in short supply, so to the joy of line dancers over half the songs were line dances. Here we see two views of folks dancing a line dance.  First of all with Belen and Ledy in front.

This second view has Connie and Nita in front.

If the photos do not display in this mail, click "Show Images" near top of this email.

Wednesday Night Dancing Surprise at Spin City

Hello Dancers,
Wednesday night dancing (Fil-Am style) Grand Opening at Spin City, Chula Vista, had surprise goodies.  More details below.

TUESDAY NIGHT LINE DANCING with continues, now celebrating its 2nd Anniversary with Nina!  Back in October 2009, Nina started Tuesday night line dancing in the former Jestoni Club, with line dance favorites at the time being "I Know You Want Me", "Sway", and "Rumba Samba Mambo".  Well, during the past two weeks here in 2011 in Point Point, most of the emphasis has been on "Rivers Of Babylon", "Mega Mambo" and "Stuck On You" line dances (links are to YouTube videos).  Sept 27th and Oct 4th line dance parties both had about 15 line dancers, welcoming Celia for her first night on Oct 4th.
FOR UPCOMING TUESDAYS (Oct 11th and 18th) you can join the fun in Point Point's Ocean Java Room, 916 E. 8th Street, National City, 6:30-9:00, when Nina will lead us through fun line dances.

WEDNESDAY NIGHT DANCING at Spin City Lounge began in rollicking fashion on Sept 28th with 20 dancers, the same night as DJ Eric concluded his year & a half engagement as the DJ for Lucky Star's Filipino Night.  At Spin City we've been pleasantly surprised for two weeks now, first of all by the great music courtesy of DJ Ernie and his "igt Music Factory".  Secondly, we've enjoyed lots of munchies (heavy hors d'oeuvres), so much chicken, vegetables and chips & salsa that it's been all-you-can-eat.  And, last but not least, the great dance instructor Paul Garcia has taught us fabulous ballroom dance steps.  DJ Ernie has played dance favorites like, "Suavemente" (merengue), "Tennessee Waltz" (line dance), and "Funkytown" (swing).
All are invited to "Ballroom & Disco Dancing" (and line dancing) with DJ Ernie at Spin City 618 E Street, Suite H, Chula Vista, Wednesday nights like this Wednesday Oct 12th.  Admission is $5 for Paul Garcia's dance lesson from 7-8pm, and $5 for "Ballroom & Disco Dancing" from 8-11pm.

THURSDAY NIGHT DANCING AT POINT POINT is still where it's happening, in the weekly Fil-Am dance night scene in San Diego.  DJ Leo plays the dance favorites like "Sinta", the romantic Filipino night club 2-step, "Esta Noche" rumba, the Waltz Line Dance, "Footloose" boogie, and an incredible one I heard for the first time, "Samba Margarita".  Crowds of over 30 have been enjoying the dancing and great Point Point food.
Leo & Penny invite us all to come on down Thursdays October 13th and 20th, to dance again on the main floor at Point Point, 916 E. 8th Street, National City.   Party dancing:  6:30-10 PM.

FRIDAY NIGHT DANCING:  There are about five every-Friday night dance parties, including 32nd St Dance Group, Dancesation at Infinity, RMX, Red Hot Line Dancers, and the Dance Fusion Social Club.  FOR MORE INFO ON THOSE AND MORE DANCE CHOICES, see Weekly Dance Events website.

PHOTOS (if these 2 photos do not pop up, click "Show Images" near top of this email):
First of all, we see line dancers like Mona, Irma and Trini dancing at the "Ballroom and Disco Dancing" Grand Opening at Spin City, Chula Vista, on Wednesday September 28th.

Then, at Point Point the following week October 6th we see Rima and Mel dancing a tango.

I put those two photos plus 13 other photos from the past 2 weeks in the ForeverYoungSD Yahoo Group Photos section into the '2011 October' folder.  For those of you who prefer the features of Google's Picasa Web Albums, and you who are non-Yahoo members, the October photos are also posted at
