Attendance Up Last Week

Hello Dancers,
Attendance was up all last week, especially at Point Point, maybe to celebrate St. Patrick's Day.  "Locomotion" was a favorite.  More details below.

TUESDAY NIGHT LINE DANCING - At the Point Point Joint line dancing this past Tuesday (March 15th) there were 17 line dancers, the most since early December.  First-timer Pressy joined us, and Lee, Nitz & Norma joined us again after many weeks. "Fly Me To The Moon" was practiced intensely, but there was less dancing this week while the ladies spent a half hour discussing "Fly Me To the Moon" (recorded by Scooter Lee), "Come Dance With Me" (record by Nancy Hays), "Choo Choo Train" (recorded by Tractors), and the only non-country new line dance of the 4, "Under The Sun" (recorded by Tim Tim).  When they learn the first 3, they can join the country line dancers at In Cahoots. Anyway, the dancers also did nine other line dances.
The Baguio Dinner-Dance is just 6 days away (Saturday, March 26th), and Edith has tickets that she would like you to get. (reference:  Upcoming Events)
THIS COMING TUESDAY (March 22nd) you can join the fun at Point Point, 916 E. 8th Street, National City, 6:30-9:00, when Nina will again lead us through fun line dances.  $5.

WEDNESDAY FILIPINO NIGHT at Lucky Star Restaurant on March 16th was enjoyed by a nice crowd of about 30 dancers, plus about 20 diners.  Once again, we guys were kept busy dancing with the ladies.  Most dances had close to 20 dancers on the floor, and a salsa apparently called "Morena Coo Coo" had 22.  So did one of the few line dances, "Todo Todo Todo".
"Filipino Night" once again will be this coming Wednesday March 23rd with DJ Eric at the LUCKY STAR RESTAURANT, 54th Street & University Avenue, San Diego. 6:30-9:30PM.  $6 plus one drink minimum.

THURSDAY NIGHT DANCING AT POINT POINT again featured Cindy and Chito giving  a FREE West Coast Swing lesson 6:30-7:30 (March 17th).  I was AWOL, so Edith filled me in.  She said the place was packed with about 50 dancers, and DJ Leo played a mixture of ballroom and line dances.  Reportedly, "Locomotion" line dance again packed the floor with nearly 40 dancing.  Celebrating St. Patrick's Day, many folks had green clothing.
This coming Thursday March 24th, we hope to dance again at Point Point, 916 E. 8th Street, National City.  Party dancing:  6:30-10 PM.  The only admission cost is $10 which gets you a 2-entree buffet dinner, 2 soft drinks, and all the dancing you can handle.

TITA'S II?  It reportedly did not meet its March 17th opening date.  So, I don't know the opening date.

"Locomotion" Continues as Top Track

Hello Dancers,
"Locomotion" continued its reign as the dancers' favorite; Cindy & Chito gave another FREE West Coast Swing lesson; and, wear GREEN this Thursday.  More details below.

TUESDAY NIGHT LINE DANCING - At the Point Point Joint line dancing this past Tuesday (March 8th) there were 13 line dancers.  "Fly Me To The Moon" was played briefly March 1st, and the Point Point dancers began trying to dance it this past week.  Other relatively recent dances for the Point Point crowd were danced  a lot: "Besame Mucho", "Locomotion", "If You Wanna Be Happy", "Rock Around The Clock", and "Tennessee Waltz".  A dozen other songs were danced. For part of the night we welcomed Cora, a regular at the 32nd Street Dancers.
The Baguio Dinner-Dance is 2 weeks away (Saturday, March 26th), and Edith has tickets that she would like you to get. (reference:  Upcoming Events)
THIS COMING TUESDAY (March 15th) you can join the fun at Point Point, 916 E. 8th Street, National City, 6:30-9:00, when Nina will again lead us through fun line dances.  $5.

WEDNESDAY FILIPINO NIGHT at Lucky Star Restaurant on March 9th was again enjoyed by 20 dancers, plus about a dozen diners, so once again we had plenty of floor space.  Seven of us guys danced more or less continuously with the thirteen ladies, and I heard no complaints.  Various swing dances got a lot of dancers on the floor, and "Simplemente", "Sex Bomb" and "Chilly Cha Cha" did very well.
"Filipino Night" once again will be this coming Wednesday March 16th with DJ Eric at the LUCKY STAR RESTAURANT, 54th Street & University Avenue, San Diego. 6:30-9:30PM.  $6 plus one drink minimum.

THURSDAY NIGHT DANCING AT POINT POINT again featured Cindy and Chito giving us a FREE West Coast Swing lesson 6:30-7:30 (March 10th).  Sugar Push, the Bump and more advanced steps were covered.  More free lessons are anticipated.  Inspiring the crowd of about 35 dancers, DJ Leo played a mixture of ballroom and line dances.  The West Coast Swing song "The Way You Make me Feel" by Michael Jackson got most folks dancing.  Nevertheless, once again the "Locomotion" line dance packed the floor with nearly everybody dancing, 30 dancers by my count.  Swing, cha cha, and merengue were other favorites.
This coming Thursday March 17th, we hope to dance again at Point Point, 916 E. 8th Street, National City.  March 17th is St. Patrick's Day, so wear some green.  Party dancing:  6:30-10 PM.  The only admission cost is $10 which gets you a 2-entree buffet dinner, 2 soft drinks, and all the dancing you can handle.

TITA'S II to Open This Week?  "The Speir family is proud to open their second restaurant Tita's II on March 17th", quoting an ad in the Mar. 4 - 10 issue of the Philippine Mabuhay News.

Then, at Point Point Thursday night, March 10th, we see first-timer Kuniko enjoying a merengue dance with Ping.

test 3-6-11

Hello Dancers,
Cindy & Chito gave a FREE West Coast Swing lesson March 3rd, and "Locomotion" continued to reign as the line dance favorite. More details below.

West Coast Swing Lesson was at Point Point Thursday March 3rd

Hello Dancers,
Cindy & Chito gave a FREE West Coast Swing lesson March 3rd, and "Locomotion" continued to reign as the line dance favorite.  More details below.

TUESDAY NIGHT LINE DANCING - At the Point Point Joint line dancing this past Tuesday (March 1st) there were 16 line dancers, the most since late December.  "Besame Mucho" line dance continued to get the most attention.  The dancers enjoyed several other line dances, including relatively new favorites "Locomotion" and "If You Wanna Be Happy".
The Baguio Dinner-Dance is 3 weeks away (Saturday, March 26th), and Edith has tickets that she would like you to get. (reference:  Upcoming Events)
THIS COMING TUESDAY (March 8th) you can join the fun at Point Point, 916 E. 8th Street, National City, 6:30-9:00, when Nina will again lead us through fun line dances.  $5.

WEDNESDAY FILIPINO NIGHT at Lucky Star Restaurant on March 2nd was enjoyed by 20 dancers, plus about a dozen diners, so once again we had plenty of floor space.  Although ladies outnumbered guys by almost 2:1, the ladies did not mind because the guys including even DJ Eric danced with them on every dance and several ladies did not want to dance.  Nevertheless, the line dances got the most dancers on the floor, with "Cumbia Semana" bringing up 16 dancers, and "S'mera" and "Chilly Cha Cha" not far behind.  Tango and meringue were ballroom dance favorites.
"Filipino Night" once again will be this coming Wednesday March 9th with DJ Eric at the LUCKY STAR RESTAURANT, 54th Street & University Avenue, San Diego. 6:30-9:30PM.  $6 plus one drink minimum.

THURSDAY NIGHT DANCING AT POINT POINT featured Cindy and Chito giving us a FREE West Coast Swing lesson early in the night (March 3rd).  Basic steps included the Sugar Push. They went on to more elaborate steps like the Bump.  More free lessons are anticipated. After the lesson as the night went on, the crowd peaked out with about 45 dancers, with DJ Leo playing a mixture of ballroom and line dances.  While several ballroom dances like "The Right Thing That We Do" waltz got over 20 dancers on the floor, once again the "Locomotion" line dance packed the floor with about 30 dancers.  Swing, 2-step, tango, cha cha, and bolero were other favorites.
This coming Thursday March 10th, we hope to dance again at Point Point, 916 E. 8th Street, National City.  Party dancing:  6:30-10 PM.  The only admission cost is $10 which gets you a 2-entree buffet dinner, 2 soft drinks, and all the dancing you can handle.

TITA'S II to Open Soon?  Rumors abound that Tita's II will open in one week.  Well, that's progress.  Last May the renovation was estimated to last four weeks.  Meanwhile, Gapo II, a retail store subsidiary of the well-know restaurant, has quietly opened across the parking lot from Tita's II.

PHOTOS:
First of all, from Wednesday March 2nd's Filipino Night at Lucky Star, we see the Charlene enjoying the disco hustle "Souvenirs" with DJ Eric

Then, at Point Point Thursday night, March 3rd, I surprised Nitz who was dancing in the back corner with Leo.

I put those two plus 22 other photos from the past week in the Forever Young Group Photos section into the '2011 March' folder.  For those of you who prefer the features of Google's Picasa Web Albums, and you who are non-Yahoo members, the March photos are also posted at

"Esta Noche" and "Locomotion" were Favorites on Feb 23 & 24

Hello Dancers,
The beautiful "Esta Noche" was the favorite at Lucky Star, and "Locomotion" was the favorite at Point Point's "Fifties Night".  More details below.

TUESDAY NIGHT LINE DANCING - At the Point Point Joint line dancing this past Tuesday (Feb 22nd) there were ten lovely-looking lady line dancers enchanting me as they enjoyed line dances, like "Besame Mucho" and "Locomotion".  Who was there?  Nina, Zeny, Beth, Rei, Divine, Marilyn, Belen, Ledy, Jun, Jona, Edith & me.  The ladies danced beautifully to "Besame Mucho".  Jun & I did pretty well dancing the Waltz Line Dance.
The Baguio Dinner-Dance is 4 weeks away (Saturday, March 26th), and Edith has tickets that she would like you to get. (reference:  Upcoming Events)
THIS COMING TUESDAY (March 1st) you can join the fun at Point Point, 916 E. 8th Street, National City, 6:30-9:00, when Nina will again lead us through fun line dances.  $5.

WEDNESDAY FILIPINO NIGHT at Lucky Star Restaurant on Feb 23rd saw attendance drop to 16 dancers, plus about 25 diners, so we had plenty of floor space.  Very surprisingly, early in the night the beautiful rumba-tempo "Esta Noche" got 15 of us 16 up dancing. The hold-out?  She was busy doing some apparently-important texting.  Every song got most dancers dancing.  "Chilly Cha Cha" and "Cumbia Semana" got 12 of us up to dance.
"Filipino Night" once again will be this coming Wednesday March 2nd with DJ Eric at the LUCKY STAR RESTAURANT, 54th Street & University Avenue, San Diego. 6:30-9:30PM.  $6 plus one drink minimum.

THURSDAY NIGHT DANCING AT POINT POINT was the Fifties Dance Party with several ladies in fluffy skirts and bobby sox.  There were about 40 dancers  Thursday night Feb 24th.  DJ Leo kept the dancers going with a mixture of ballroom and line dances.  The crowd peaked out around 8PM, and that's when the "Locomotion" line dance got about 24 dancers on the floor.  Near that time, the "Stand By Me" bachata, "If You Wanna Be Happy" line dance, "Sex Bomb" line dance, and a cha cha all got over 20 dancers on the floor. Everyone was having fun not only dancing, but making new acquaintances.
Next Thursday March 3rd, we hope to dance again at Point Point, 916 E. 8th Street, National City.  Party dancing:  6:30-10 PM.  The only admission cost is $10 which gets you a 2-entree buffet dinner, 2 soft drinks, and all the dancing you can handle.

PHOTOS:
First of all, from Nina's Tuesday Night line dancing at Point Point Tuesday Feb 22nd, we see the 10 lovely laughing lady line dancers and Jun.

Then, at Point Point Thursday night, Feb 24th, we see two cute redheads, Edith and Rose, trying some new bachata dance steps.

I put those two plus 21 other photos from the past week in the Forever Young Group Photos section into the '2011 February' folder.  For those of you who prefer the features of Google's Picasa Web Albums, and you who are non-Yahoo members, the February photos are also posted at

THURSDAY NIGHT DANCING AT POINT POINT was the Western Dance Party with many folks in cowboy and cowgirl attire.  I was AWOL, so Edith took pictures and told me what happened.  Thanks to the attendance of Cesar about 15 dancers that go to his Dance Fusion Social Club nights (see info on their dances in Upcoming Weekly Events), there were about 50 dancers again Thursday night Feb 17th.  Cesar's dancers showed off some of their line dance favorites like "House Of Bamboo".  Line dances that most everyone knew included "Tennessee Waltz", "If You Wanna Be Happy", and "Locomotion".
Next Thursday Feb 24th, the dance at Point Point, 916 E. 8th Street, National City, will be a Fifties dance party night, so what to wear?  Bobby socks?  Fluffy skirts?  Leather jackets? We'll see.  Party dancing:  6:30-10 PM.  The only admission cost is $10 which gets you a 2-entree buffet dinner, 2 soft drinks, and all the dancing you can handle.

PHOTOS:
First of all, from Filipino Night at Lucky Star Wednesday Feb 16th, for the second week in a row we have Jun and Jona enjoying a tango.

Then, at Point Point Thursday night, Feb 17th, we see Ping dancing with one of the ladies from the Dance Fusion Social Club.

TUESDAY NIGHT LINE DANCING - At the Point Point Joint line dancing this past Tuesday (Feb 8th) there were ten line dancers enjoying line dances, like "Can't Take My Eyes Off You" and "I Love The Nightlife".  While my memory is fuzzy, I see from the photos that Divine, Jona and Jun also joined us dancing on Wednesday and Thursday.

THURSDAY NIGHT DANCING AT POINT POINT was the Valentine Dance Party.  Thanks to Leo & Penny's incredible networking skills, 50-55 dancers showed up for what was the 3rd week of Thursday night dance at Point Point!  Lots of beautiful ladies in Valentines red.  Art Tennessee joined us.  And, Cindy DeLeon dropped in to say "Hi" - photo of Cindy in Photo Albums.  She said she thinks Tita's II will open next month - but we've been hearing such predictions for the past 9 months.  DJ Leo played ballroom and line dances till 10pm.  Favorites like, "1st, Last, My Everything", "Tennessee Waltz", "Margaritaville", and "Rumba Samba Mambo" each got about 20 dozen dancers on the floor, and "Cumbia Semana" seemed to be the favorite with over 25 dancers on the floor.
Next Thursday Feb 17th, the dance at Point Point, 916 E. 8th Street, National City, will be a Western dress night, so look for what?  Boots?  Cowboy hats?  We'll see.  Party dancing:  6:30-10 PM.  The only admission cost is $10 which gets you a 2-entree buffet dinner, 2 soft drinks, and all the dancing you can handle.

Point Point Thursday Gets BIG!

Hello Dancers,
Thursday night at Point Point Joint was the biggest dance of the week for me.  More details below.

TUESDAY NIGHT LINE DANCING - At the Point Point Joint line dancing this past Tuesday (Feb 1st) there were fifteen line dancers enjoying twelve line dances, like "Chilly Cha Cha", "Rose Garden", and "Sex Bomb".  "If You Wanna Be Happy" footwork continued to be discussed.  We welcomed Marilyn's friend Luisa, who joined us for the first time.
THIS COMING TUESDAY (Feb 8th) you can join the fun at Point Point, 916 E. 8th Street, National City, 6:30-9:00, when Nina will again lead us through fun line dances.  $5.
EDITH will continue selling tickets to a Feb 19th Post-Valentine Dinner Dance at Holiday Inn on the Bay.  See details in Upcoming Events.

WEDNESDAY FILIPINO NIGHT at Lucky Star Restaurant on February 2nd was back in the big ballroom.  Attendance dropped to 16 dancers, plus about 20 people who were just dining in the restaurant.  Nevertheless, several songs got a dozen dancers onto the floor, including "La Cumparsita" tango, "Chilly Cha Cha" and "Old Time Rock and Roll".
"Filipino Night" once again will be this coming Wednesday Feb 9th with DJ Eric at the LUCKY STAR RESTAURANT, 54th Street & University Avenue, San Diego. 6:30-9:30PM.  $6 plus one drink minimum.

THURSDAY NIGHT DANCING AT POINT POINT became BIG on Feb 3rd!!  Thanks to Leo & Penny's networking skills, THIRTY dancers showed up for the 2nd week of Thursday night dance at Point Point!  It was a joyful reunion of dancers who had not all been together at one dance in almost a year.  With all the glamorous ladies there, it was a 3-hour photo session for me (see photos in Group Photos section or the Picasa album). To get enough floor space, this week most tables on main floor were moved to the upper level.  Narsing enjoyed her 72nd birthday celebration during the evening.  Marilyn came to the dance with Maryann.  DJ Leo played ballroom and line dances till 10pm.  Favorites like, "1st, Last, My Everything", "Tennessee Waltz", Waltz Line Dance, and "S'mera" each got over a dozen dancers on the floor.
Next Thursday Feb 10th, the dance at Point Point, 916 E. 8th Street, National City, will be VALENTINE DANCE.  "Dress to impress" was the word.  If the dance matches the Valentine Dances in previous years at Manila-Tokyo, it will be a beautiful sight - well, at least the ladies will be.  Several ideas and plans were mentioned.  Another plan was confirmed:  Chito and Cindy will give West Coast Swing dance lessons before the main dances for at least the next two weeks - so those lessons will probably be 6:30-7pm.  Party dancing will go until 10 PM.  The only admission cost is $10 which gets you a 2-entree buffet dinner, 2 soft drinks, and all the dancing you can handle.

FRIDAY NIGHT DANCING AT BETHUNE SCHOOL near Woodman and Paradise Valley Road, with dance instructor Cesar. Vivian, Edith and I were welcomed there tonight by the friendly, cordial, happy and energetic dancers, including Cesar, who was leading the line dancers.  The folks at Bethune danced to an amazing number of dances, 18 different line dances between 7pm and 8:30pm, closing time. The dancing was in the school auditorium.  Cesar said that they know most of the dances we do at Point Point.  I knew 4 of the 18 they did, including "If You Wanna Be Happy", "Tennessee Waltz", and "Simplemente".  This weekly dance event, along with many others, are listed on the "Weekly & Upcoming Dance Events Information" webpage.

DJ ERIC's SUNDAY AFTERNOON "STRICTLY BALLROOM" 2-5PM at Lucky Star is CANCELLED this Sunday Feb 6th due to Super Bowl.  It will resume Sunday Feb  13th.

PHOTOS:
First of all, from Filipino Night at Lucky Star Wednesday Feb 2nd, we see Ping stopping to say "Hi" to Malou and Vivian.

Then, at Point Point Thursday night, Feb 3rd, we see that Liz and Rima were  happy as they posed together.  Well, everyone was happy that night.

And lastly, from tonight (Feb 4th) at Cesar's line dancing at Bethune Elementary School auditorium, we see Cesar in the hat leading his dancers in an interesting line dance.

I put those three plus 24 other photos from the past week in the Forever Young Group Photos section into the '2011 February' folder.  For those of you who prefer the features of Google's Picasa Web Albums, and you who are non-Yahoo members, the February photos are also posted at
