Hello Dancers, We extend condolences and sympathy to our regular dancer Nedy, who is also prominent in the Fil-Am community. Her Dad died Jan 14th and she's on her way to Manila for services. This sad loss follows by two weeks the loss of Rei Toth's mother. Meanwhile at Lucky Star, DJ Eric was AWOL, but five guys and five ladies danced the night away on the Jan 12th "Filipino Night". TUESDAY NIGHT LINE DANCING - At the Point Point Joint line dancing this past Tuesday Jan 11th eleven of us danced through about a dozen line dances, a few up to three times. We welcomed a visiting VIP from the Red Hot Line Dancers, Baby. She told us a bit about the Red Hot Line Dancers' fun Friday dances in Mira Mesa - they get about 50 dancers! Anyway, we danced to "Asi Asi", "If You Wanna Be Happy", "Rock Around The Clock", "Sway", and many more. THIS TUESDAY (Jan 18th) you can join the fun at Point Point, 916 E. 8th Street, National City, 6:30-9:00, when Nina will again lead us through fun line dances. $5.
WEDNESDAY FILIPINO NIGHT at Lucky Star Restaurant on January 12th again had few dancers, this time there were ten of us. Although the owner was disappointed by the low turnout, with five guys and five ladies, there was a dance partner for everyone. And, dance we did! There were 10 of us dancing to many songs. DJ Eric was absent again, stuck on the East Coast due to snow-related flight cancellations. So once again, the manager gave "OK" to play dance CDs on their system. With folks being mostly ballroom dancers, two-step songs like "Yo Te Amo" and disco swing like "You're the 1st, Last, My Everything" got everyone onto the floor. The few line dances like "Todo Todo Todo" also got us on the floor. Expect DJ Eric and $6 cover charge this coming Wednesday Jan 19th. THURSDAY NIGHT DANCING AT JADE HOUSE at 569 H Street, Chula Vista, Jan 13th, also had 10 dancers - 3 guys and 7 ladies - Whoopee! With Jun being the only guy who dances ballroom nicely, most songs were line dances like "Asi Asi", "Can't Take My Eyes Off You", "Chilly Cha Cha", "Coco Jamboo", "If You Wanna Be Happy", "Rock Around The Clock", "Sex Bomb", "Tennessee Waltz" and "Volare". With attendance low, it's best to call ahead to see what's happening this coming Thursday January 20th. Hello Dancers, Yes, there were dancers at "Filipino Night" at Lucky Star Jan 5th, and the merengue "Suavemente" got a lot of dancers up. Details below.
TUESDAY NIGHT LINE DANCING - At the Point Point Joint line dancing this past Tuesday Jan 4th twelve of us danced through about 15 different line dances. We welcomed back Leah and Susan who'd been at the line dancing a couple months ago. We continued to sort out the steps of "If You Wanna Be Happy" line dance, also known as "Crazy Foot Mambo Line Dance". We got to refresh our memory of "Can't Take My Eyes Off You". Some others we danced to were "Asi Asi", "Rock Around The Clock", and "Sex Bomb". THIS TUESDAY (Jan 11th) you can join the fun at Point Point, 916 E. 8th Street, National City, 6:30-9:00, when Nina will again lead us through fun line dances. $5.
WEDNESDAY FILIPINO NIGHT at Lucky Star Restaurant on January 5th, was again advertised in "Filipino Press", even though the regular DJ Eric said he's off until Wednesday January 12th. Surprise! Some Forever Youngsters were eating when I walked in, and the manager gave "OK" to play dance CDs on their system. By & by there were 14 of us dancing and many other diners some who joined the dancing till they ran us out at 9pm. With folks being mostly ballroom dancers, salsa like "Hablame", disco swing like "I Will Survive", and merengue like "Suavemente" (a song which I see has TWO Wikipedia sites devoted to it) got many dancers up. Nevertheless, line dances "Cumbia Semana", "Todo Todo Todo" and "Coco Jamboo" also got most of us on the floor. Expect DJ Eric and $6 cover charge this coming Wednesday Jan 12th. The night was filled with lots of ballroom dances, mostly swing and hustle, and line dancing, "Porque Te Quiero" cha cha, "You're The 1st, Last, My Everything" hustle swing, and line dances "Asi Asi", "Cupid Shuffle" and "Electric Slide" the favorites. With attendance low, it's best to call ahead to see what's happening this coming Thursday January 13th. TUESDAY NIGHT LINE DANCING - Line dancing at Point Point Joint this past Tuesday Dec 28th featured a ton of food, celebrating both the Holidays and Jun Ancho's birthday. Nely & Gigi & Ledy's husband Ador joined us. "If You Wanna Be Happy" line dance, also known as "Crazy Foot Mambo Line Dance", continued to occupy most of the dancers' attention, with its cute rollicking sound and moderately difficult choreography. We did get to dance some of the more well known line dances, like "Coco Jamboo", "Cumbia Semana", "Rose Garden", and "Tennessee Waltz". THIS TUESDAY (Jan 4th) you can join the fun at Point Point, 916 E. 8th Street, National City, 6:30-9:00, when Nina will again lead us through fun line dances. $5.
WEDNESDAY FILIPINO NIGHT at Lucky Star Restaurant on December 29th, was again advertised in "Filipino Press", even though the regular DJ Eric said he's off until Wednesday January 12th. Anyway, several people showed up for dancing, and the manager let me play our dance CDs. No cover charge. So, about a dozen of us danced till they ran us out at 9pm. There were line dances, and hustle swing songs "You're The 1st, Last, My Everything" and "Believe" which got everyone up dancing. Dancers also liked the cha cha "La Ultima Noche". If there is any dancing this coming Wednesday Jan 5th, there again should be no cover charge. The LUCKY STAR RESTAURANT is at 54th Street & University Avenue, San Diego.
THURSDAY NIGHT DANCING AT JADE HOUSE at 569 H Street, Chula Vista, Dec 30th, had about 10 dancers. DJ RT started the night with a beautiful serenade of "Unchained Melody" to his girlfriend, Melody. The night was filled with lots of ballroom dances, mostly swing and hustle, and line dancing, karaoke and the Holiday Bowl on TV. Bong practiced a lively dance routine with Penny to the song "Dance With Me". "If You Wanna Be Happy", "Tennessee Waltz" and "Volare" were line dance favorites. Manager Vangie Mangune will be open next Thursday night Jan 6th, 6pm-about 11pm for dinner, dancing and karaoke. Dinner will be from the menus, and no extra cover charge for dancing this week, so if you can make it, come on down. Hello Dancers, I hope you all had a Merry Christmas. Although the 32nd Street Group's Holiday Party at Fiesta Hall had 100's in attendance, dancers were few at the places I went. Details below.
TUESDAY NIGHT LINE DANCING - Line dancing at Point Point Joint resumed on Tuesday December 21st, after a one-week break for a Christmas party. "If You Wanna Be Happy" line dance got the most attention. We danced a lot of others, but maybe my sentimental favorite was "Rockin Pneumonia and Boogie Woogie Flu", because I must've had the flu. THIS TUESDAY (Dec 28th) you can join the fun at Point Point, 916 E. 8th Street, National City, 6:30-9:00, when Nina will again lead us through fun line dances. $5.
WEDNESDAY FILIPINO NIGHT at Lucky Star Restaurant on December 22nd, was advertised in "Filipino Press", but there was more-or-less NO DANCING, probably because DJ Eric is on a holiday vacation. DJ Eric said he's off until Wednesday January 12th, so if there is any dancing this coming Wednesday, there again should be no cover charge. The LUCKY STAR RESTAURANT is at 54th Street & University Avenue, San Diego.

DJ RT mixed in a good amount of karaoke along with great dance songs like "She Bangs", "Asi Asi", "September", "Todo Todo Todo" and the "Tennessee Waltz" line dance.. Manager Vangie Mangune will be open next Thursday night Dec 30th, 6pm-about 11pm for dinner, dancing and karaoke. Dinner will be off the menu, and no extra cover charge for dancing this week, so if you can make it, come on down. WEDNESDAY FILIPINO NIGHT at Lucky Star Restaurant on December 8th, featured DJ Eric, the One-Man Band. Attendance plunged again, this time to a mere 8 dancers plus Eric. Dancers there were Mel, Gloria, me, Vivian, Malou, Dollybelle, Nita and Dione. The few of us had a wide open dance floor, and we danced to a lot of great songs like "You're The First, The Last, My Everything", "Heaven's What I Feel", the Waltz Line Dance, and "Coco Jamboo". DJ Eric said he's off until Wednesday January 12th, so if there is any dancing this Wednesday, there should be no cover charge. The LUCKY STAR RESTAURANT is at 54th Street & University Avenue, San Diego.

DJ RT kept the room hopping, and the holiday mood in full swing, especially to "Rocking Around The Christmas Tree". Hello Dancers, Dancers at Jade House's Thursday Night Dance Party December 9th were entertained by The Nostalgia Singers. Details below.
TUESDAY NIGHT LINE DANCING - Tuesday December 7th, Line Dance Night at Point Point brought about 20 energetic line dancers, including 1st-timer Rene. Nina introduced a country line dance that's popular around the world called "Good Time", a rollicking song by Alan Jackson. Nitz, a 32nd St Group regular, introduced another cute line dance to the Point Point crowd, called "If You Want To Be Happy". MP3's of both are available for you in this Yahoo Group's Files. A lot of time was spent on the dizzying new line dance steps to "Asi Asi". With guys Rene and Bong being more familiar with ballroom dancing, there was some nice swing dancing also taking place, especially to "Achy Breaky Heart". We went through over 10 different line dances again. Among them were "I Love The Nightlife", "Rock Around The Clock", "Sex Bomb", "September", "Simplemente" and "Tennessee Waltz". THIS TUESDAY (Dec 14th) NO DANCING AT POINT POINT. Instead, a Party at Nedy's house. You can join the fun at Point Point again on following Tuesdays (December 21st, December 28th, January 4th, etc.) at Point Point Joint, 916 E. 8th Street, National City, 6:30-9:00, when Nina will again lead us through fun line dances. $5.
WEDNESDAY FILIPINO NIGHT at Lucky Star Restaurant on December 8th, featured DJ Eric, the One-Man Band. Attendance plunged to 12 dancers, one of the dancers being newcomer Vivian, plus a dozen or more people who were just eating. Among the dancers, there were about the same number of ladies and guys, so there was a lot of dancing, and we frequently had 10 of the 12 dancers on the floor. All the swing and hustle dances got nearly 10 dancers on the floor, like "Hot Stuff" and "You Should Be Dancing". We're looking forward to this coming week's "Filipino Night". It will again be WEDNESDAY NIGHT (December 15th) in the LUCKY STAR RESTAURANT, 54th Street & University Avenue, San Diego, from about 6:30 to 9:30pm.
THURSDAY NIGHT DANCING AT JADE HOUSE at 569 H Street, Chula Vista, had about 20 dancers, including some who sang karaoke and The Nostalgia Singers, on Thursday night December 9th. Because Christmas is getting closer, there was a seasonal festive atmosphere in Jade House. The "Nostalgia Singers", Pressy, Tess, Mina and Lilia, entertained everyone with a variety of pretty songs including Christmas songs. Besides the Nostalgia Singers, there were line dancers from Nina's line dancing group, some from 32 Street Group, and some who go to Lucky Star and Forever Young events. Line dancers were in the majority early in the night and again at the end of the night, but from 9 to 10 ballroom dancers were in the majority. The music matched the audience, and I left at 11 right after "Coco Jamboo". Evelyn had a little jewelry display, and ladies bought a bunch of bling from her. Manager Vangie Mangune will be open next Thursday night 6pm-nearly midnight Dec 16th for buffet dinner, dancing and karaoke, all for $10, so if you can make it, come on down. Hello Dancers, Nina introduced us to "Rockin' Around The Christmas Tree" line dance on Tuesday. It got played and danced to at the 3 dance parties I went to, Tuesday at Point Point, Wednesday at Lucky Star, and Thursday at Jade House. So did other line dance favorites "Todo, Todo, Todo", "Tennessee Waltz", "Coco Jamboo", "Rose Garden", and "September". Christmas and New Years schedules are shaping up. More details below.
TUESDAY NIGHT LINE DANCING - Tuesday November 30th, line dance night now $5 per person at Point Point brought about 15 energetic line dancers, including 1st-timers Leah and Susan. Besides the ones listed above, we danced to "I Love The Nightlife", "Rock Around The Clock", "Sway", "Sex Bomb" and "Simplemente". You can join the fun this coming Tuesday (December 7th) at Point Point Joint, 916 E. 8th Street, National City, 6:30-9:00, when Nina will again lead us through fun line dances.
WEDNESDAYFILIPINO NIGHT at Lucky Star Restaurant on December 1st, featured DJ Eric, the One-Man Band. Attendance crept up to 25 dancers, one being Bert Andrade, plus dozens of diners. There were about the same number of ladies and guys, so there was a lot of dancing, but still there weren't more than 20 dancers on the floor at any one time. The waltz "Right Thing That We Do" got about 20 dancers. We're looking forward to this coming week's "Filipino Night". It will again be WEDNESDAY NIGHT (December 8th) in the LUCKY STAR RESTAURANT, 54th Street & University Avenue, San Diego, from about 6:30 to 9:30pm.

TITA's II. The building where Jestoni (formerly Manila-Tokyo) existed, which has been dormant since May, has been the scene of much renovation work lately. Apparently the Stop Work order was lifted, and Tita's II is being readied for an opening. There's still no word on what kind of weekly entertainment Tita's II will have, but there have been big Help Wanted ads in "Filipino Press" lately. The help wanted is for "chefs & kitchen help". The ads mention "unique dining and entertainment experience" and "target opening day is 1st week of December" (i.e., now! It looks like it'll be somewhat later.).

Friday night dancing: These 5 begin variously between 6:30 and 8pm, usually with dance lessons early, and some dance till about 11pm: (1) the 32nd Street Dance Group on the Naval Station - But on Friday Dec 10th there's no dance lesson or regular social dancing. RMX will meet Dec 17th along with their Christmas potluck, but no regular event on Dec 24th or 31st. (4) Red Hot Line Dancers.
