Hello Dancers,
BLACKOUT on Sept 8th and 9/11 memorials on Sept 11th. More details below.
It's a week to remember in San Diego. The long County-wide power blackout that began at 3:38pm Thursday caused cancellation of Thursday night dancing and untold millions of dollars of damage. Tomorrow (Sunday Sept 11th) will mark 10 years since the terrorist attacks of Sept 11, 2001. Churches, other organizations, and all of us will be remembering, memorializing and honoring those who were killed in the attacks ten years ago, and those killed & wounded in the ensuing 10-year war on terror.
TUESDAY NIGHT LINE DANCING - VIP visitors who made the journey from Temecula on August 30th, Maria and Froilan, joined about ten of us line dancers. We had more practice on "Acabo de Llegar", the salsa line dance that Rei introduced in a previous week. Others included "Locomotion", "Come Dance With Me", and - with both Peter & I there - we also got "Coco Jamboo". I have no photos from Sept 6th, but with the all-time record heat that day, whoever danced was WARM!
FOR UPCOMING TUESDAYS (Sept 13th and 20th) you can join the fun in Point Point's Ocean Java Room, 916 E. 8th Street, National City, 6:30-9:00, when Nina will lead us through fun line dances.
WEDNESDAY FILIPINO NIGHTS at Lucky Star Restaurant. With attendance hovering around ten, we were happy to welcome nurses Lady, Romilde and Jamie. We all had fun practicing swing, cha cha and salsa. The air conditioning kept us cool, and DJ Eric was hot. Besides his favorite, a country swing (boogie) called "Chattahoochee", he's begun playing "On The Floor" and "Ooh La La". A couple weeks ago the guys outnumbered the ladies, but Sept 7th saw more ladies than guys. DJ Eric was busy dancing (see photo albums).
"Filipino Night" once again will be this coming Wednesday September 14th at the LUCKY STAR RESTAURANT, 54th Street & University Avenue, San Diego. 6:30-9:30PM. $6 plus one drink minimum. DJ Eric will be on stage playing a variety of dance music.
THURSDAY NIGHT DANCING AT POINT POINT was blacked out Thursday (Sept 8th), but it was a lively night of dancing Sept 1st. "Yo Te Amo", the night club 2-step favorite for years, packed the floor about 8:30. DJ Leo kept the 45 or so folks dancing with swing, meringue, line dances and more. "Twist & Shout", "Footloose" and "Suavemente" were some of the favorites. Line dances were big too, especially "Mama Maria".
This coming Thursday September 15th, Leo & Penny invite us all to dance again on the main floor at Point Point, 916 E. 8th Street, National City. Party dancing: 6:30-10 PM.
FRIDAY NIGHT DANCING: There are at least four every-Friday night dance parties, including 32nd St Dance Group, Dancesation at Infinity, RMX and Red Hot Line Dancers. FOR MORE INFO ON THOSE AND MORE DANCE CHOICES, see Weekly Dance Events website.
Ernie Tactay mentioned that he expects to begin DJ'ing every Wednesday starting in late September, I think in Chula Vista's Spin City.
PHOTOS (if these 2 photos do not pop up, click "Show Images" near top of this email):
First of all, at Point Point on Sept 1st we see Dione and Nita gracefully dancing a bachata.
Then, at Lucky Star on Sept 7th we see the ladies having fun with the "Casper Slide", with Vivian and Lady in front, and Jovith, Rose and Romilde in the second line.
I put those two photos plus 19 other photos from the past 2 weeks in the ForeverYoungSD Yahoo Group Photos section into the '2011 September' folder. For those of you who prefer the features of Google's Picasa Web Albums, and you who are non-Yahoo members, the August photos are also posted at

Hello Dancers,
'Sinta' by the Filipino band Aegis has clearly been the dance floor favorite especially at Point Point. More details below.
TUESDAY NIGHT LINE DANCING - Line dancers were jubilant as they danced through the August warm nights in Point Point, especially to songs like "It's My Soul", "Tennessee Waltz", "Coco Jamboo", "Under The Sun" and the salsa line dance that Rei introduced. Irma is relatively new to the group, and brand new to the group were Chit and Melinda.
FOR UPCOMING TUESDAYS (August 30th and Sept 6th) you can join the fun in Point Point's Ocean Java Room, 916 E. 8th Street, National City, 6:30-9:00, when Nina will lead us through fun line dances.
WEDNESDAY FILIPINO NIGHTS at Lucky Star Restaurant. The music's been great for the past two weeks, but the attendance is not that great, unless you like a lot of open dance floor. DJ Eric played a nice variety of swing, cha cha and other latin music, and even line dances. My favorites were "Self Control", "One Way Ticket" (you can see video 1 or video 2 on YouTube) and "On The Floor". August 24th was unique in that the guys outnumbered the ladies - the first time I'd seen that. Carlos brought Christine, who enjoyed her first Wednesday dance at Lucky Star, as far as I know.
"Filipino Night" once again will be this coming Wednesday August 31st at the LUCKY STAR RESTAURANT, 54th Street & University Avenue, San Diego. 6:30-9:30PM. $6 plus one drink minimum. DJ Eric will be on stage playing a variety of dance music.
THURSDAY NIGHT DANCING AT POINT POINT managed to pack in about 45 dancers last Thursday (August 25th), and I heard the previous week was the same. It was a warm night and DJ Leo was hot with great ballroom and line dance music. "Sinta" by the Filipino band Aegis (click here for YouTube video; its MP3 is in Files), the Filipino love ballad night club 2-step that I was able to recognize June 2nd, continues to be the favorite. The waltz line dance, "Right Thing That We Do", is also very popular. Line dances got the ladies dancing, especially "Tennessee Waltz", "It's My Soul", and "If You Wanna Be Happy". I was thrilled to hear "Rivers Of Babylon" and "Self Control".
This coming Thursday September 1st, Leo & Penny invite us all to dance again on the main floor at Point Point, 916 E. 8th Street, National City. Party dancing: 6:30-10 PM.
FRIDAY NIGHT DANCING: The Friday night dance party teaming of Bert Velasco's Dancesation, It Takes Two, and the Infinity Dance Sports Center continues attracting dancers for fun Friday dancing at the Infinity Dance Sport Center, 4428 Convoy Street, Suite 288, near Convoy & Balboa Avenue from 7 - 11pm every Friday. $8 includes a dance lesson until 8pm, followed by social dancing.
At the same time, the 32nd Street Dance Group is enjoying their refurbished ballroom for Friday night dancing in the ADM Robinson Rec Center. The dancing lesson begins there at 8pm followed by social dancing around 9pm for a mere $2.
FOR MORE INFO ON THOSE MORE DANCE CHOICES, see Weekly Dance Events website.
PHOTOS (if these 2 photos do not pop up, click "Show Images" near top of this email):
First of all, at Lucky Star last Wednesday (August 24th), even though there were more guys than ladies (!!), somehow Carlos got to dance with two of the lovely ladies, Edith and Christine.
Then, the next night on Point Point's main floor on Thursday August 25th we see Marylou, Irma and Nitz dancing joyfully to "Let's Twist Again".
I put those two photos plus 15 other photos from the past 2 weeks in the ForeverYoungSD Yahoo Group Photos section into the '2011 August' folder. For those of you who prefer the features of Google's Picasa Web Albums, and you who are non-Yahoo members, the August photos are also posted at

Dancesation Grand Opening Draws Over 140
Hello Dancers,
Bert Velasco's Dancesation teamed with Infinity and It Takes 2 to have a well-attended Grand Opening August 5th. More details below.
TUESDAY NIGHT LINE DANCING - A couple line dances that are more or less new to Nina's group got a lot of attention Tuesday August 2nd & 9th: "Mamma Maria" and "It's My Soul". On August 9th, Rei introduced a salsa line dance. Cooler than usual early August evenings made for some enjoyable line dancing in Point Point's Ocean Java Room.
FOR UPCOMING TUESDAYS (August 16th and 23rd) you can join the fun in Point Point's Ocean Java Room, 916 E. 8th Street, National City, 6:30-9:00, when Nina will lead us through fun line dances.
WEDNESDAY FILIPINO NIGHTS at Lucky Star Restaurant. "Sinta" night club 2-step got all 16 dancers on the floor Wednesday August 3rd. "You're the First, Last, My Everything" swing dance did the same the following Wednesday. DJ Eric played a nice variety of ballroom and line dances. "Coco Jamboo" and "Tennessee Waltz" line dances were favorites on both nights.
"Filipino Night" once again will be this coming Wednesday August 17th at the LUCKY STAR RESTAURANT, 54th Street & University Avenue, San Diego. 6:30-9:30PM. $6 plus one drink minimum. DJ Eric will be on stage playing a variety of dance music.
THURSDAY NIGHT DANCING AT POINT POINT keeps getting a crowd with around 50 showing up August 4th & 11th. DJ Leo kept the dancers dancing with great ballroom and line dance music. "Sinta" and the waltz line dance were the favorites getting around 40 on the floor each time. "Tennessee Waltz" seemed to be the favorite line dance, and "Rumba Samba Mambo" still gets a lot of line dancers out on the floor.
This coming Thursday August 18th, Leo & Penny invite us all to dance again on the main floor at Point Point, 916 E. 8th Street, National City. Party dancing: 6:30-10 PM.
FRIDAY NIGHT DANCING: The Friday night teaming of Bert Velasco's Dancesation, It Takes Two, and the Infinity Dance Sports Center got off to a great start August 5th with over 140 attending the "Grand Opening" Luau Night. There was lots of food and lots of dancing on the big Infinity dance floor. While most songs were unfamiliar to me, I did recognize "Self Control", a swing dance, and among the handful of line dances I recognized "Simplemente". You can join the fun at the Infinity Dance Sport Center, 4428 Convoy Street, Suite 288, in the shopping center with Office Depot near Convoy & Balboa Avenue from 7 - 11pm every Friday. $8 includes a dance lesson until 8pm, followed by social dancing.
Also on August 5th, the 32nd Street Dance Group resumed Friday night dancing in their ballroom in the ADM Robinson Rec Center after renovations. The dancing lesson begins there at 8pm followed by social dancing around 9pm.
FOR MORE WEEKEND DANCE choices, see Weekly Dance Events website.
PHOTOS (if these 2 photos do not pop up, click "Show Images" near top of this email):
First of all, we see Florita dancing with Bert Velasco at the Grand Opening Luau Party Friday August 5th at Infinity.
Then, on Point Point's main floor on Thursday August 11th we see Roseann dancing a night club 2-step with Oscar.

"It's My Soul" Top "New" Song In July
Hello Dancers,
Thanks in part to Forever Youngsters adding a line dance to it, "It's My Soul" got folks dancing a lot in July. More details below.
TUESDAY NIGHT LINE DANCING - Line dancing in Point Point's Ocean Java Room remained warm as we danced in late July. "It's My Soul" had been sitting quietly on some laptops for years as a West Coast Swing song, but after Connie added some line dance steps, the song has become a favorite. Nina & Tuesday night line dancers practiced it. "Mamma Maria", "Under The Sun", "Tennessee Waltz" and "If You Want to Be Happy" continued as line dance favorites.
FOR UPCOMING TUESDAYS (August 2nd and 9th) you can join the fun in Point Point's Ocean Java Room, 916 E. 8th Street, National City, 6:30-9:00, when Nina will lead us through fun line dances.
WEDNESDAY FILIPINO NIGHTS at Lucky Star Restaurant. "It's My Soul" made it big in Lucky Star the past two weeks, but the dance was Manila and West Coast Swing (the line dance had not made it from National City to 54th & University, yet). Twenty dancers were there July 20th. On July 27th Filipino guys were noticeable by their complete absence except for DJ Eric. All the guys were white guys and most of the ladies were Asian. The air-conditioning was on and the music was hot - "One Way Ticket" disco swing was my favorite both nights. Two-steps "Lady In Red", "Sinta" and "Tal Vez Quiza" got everyone on the floor, as did swing dances like "I Love The Night Life".
"Filipino Night" once again will be this coming Wednesday August 3rd at the LUCKY STAR RESTAURANT, 54th Street & University Avenue, San Diego. 6:30-9:30PM. $6 plus one drink minimum. DJ Eric will be on stage playing a variety of dance music.
THURSDAY NIGHT DANCING AT POINT POINT continued into a warm late July with attendance climbing up to about 50 dancers. DJ Leo mounted speakers high on Point Point's walls over the main floor, so he doesn't have to lug them in & out each week. The featured line dance became "It's My Soul", even though "Tennessee Waltz" seemed to pack the floor even more. The "Waltz Line Dance" also packed the floor, as did "Sinta". But, my favorite was "Roadrunner" by Microwave Dave. On Thursday July 28th, Point Point was extra crowded as a reunion of Filipinos from Guam was going on in the Ocean Java room until after 9PM.
This coming Thursday August 4th, Leo & Penny invite us all to dance again on the main floor at Point Point, 916 E. 8th Street, National City. Party dancing: 6:30-10 PM.
FRIDAY NIGHT DANCING: Bert Velasco and his weekly Friday night Dancesation moves this week into Infinity Dance Sport Center, 4428 Convoy Street, Suite 288, in the shopping center with Office Depot near Convoy & Balboa Avenue. The former mainstay of the Poway dance group is having a Grand Opening this Friday August 5th in Infinity from 7 - 11pm. It'll be Hawaiian Luau Party night, featuring pot luck food and Hawaiian attire. $8 includes a rumba dance lesson until 8pm, followed by social dancing. (see Luau Party poster in Files section)
The 32nd Street Dance Group expects their ballroom in the ADM Robinson Rec Center to re-open after renovations. The dancing lesson begins there at 8pm followed by social dancing around 9pm.
FOR MORE WEEKEND DANCE choices, see Weekly Dance Events website.
PHOTOS (if these 2 photos do not pop up, click "Show Images" near top of this email):
First of all, we see DJ Eric dancing with Rima to one of his favorite songs, the "Chattahoochee" boogie, in Lucky Star on Wednesday July 27th.
Then, on Point Point's main floor on Thursday July 28th we see Angie and Bernie dancing a merengue.
I put those two plus 24 other photos from the past 2 weeks in the ForeverYoungSD Yahoo Group Photos section into the '2011 July' folder. For those of you who prefer the features of Google's Picasa Web Albums, and you who are non-Yahoo members, the July photos are also posted at

Poway's Dance-O-Rama Packs Four Points on Saturday
Hello Dancers,
Bert Velasco's Dance-O-Rama packed Four Points on Kearny Mesa with over 60 dancers for 2 Saturdays. More details below.
TUESDAY NIGHT LINE DANCING - Maybe there's now a 3rd guy regularly going to Nina's Tuesday Night Line Dancing in Point Point's Ocean Java Room. Peter is still coming, joining me and Jun. AND, lovers of "Coco Jamboo" have now reached Critical Mass (me and Peter), so we get "Coco Jamboo" played every night. Peter even brought his dear 85-year-old mother Per, who joined in on a couple dances. The other ladies meanwhile loved "Come Dance With Me" and "Volare". Chito led line dancing on "Another One Bites the Dust" on June 28th, the 1st time for me to see those steps.
THIS COMING TUESDAY (July 5th) you can join the fun in Point Point's Ocean Java Room, 916 E. 8th Street, National City, 6:30-9:00, when Nina will lead us through fun line dances.
WEDNESDAY FILIPINO NIGHTS at Lucky Star Restaurant. DJ Eric, back on stage on Wednesdays since June 15th, was hot again this past Wednesday June 29th. With more ladies than guys in the place, the line dances like "Tennessee Waltz" and "Coco Jamboo" got the most dancers. But, by and by the exhilarating music got the ladies dancing even without a partner. Attendance the past two weeks has been about 15 folks enjoying the great facility on "Filipino Nights".
"Filipino Night" once again will be this coming Wednesday July 6th at the LUCKY STAR RESTAURANT, 54th Street & University Avenue, San Diego. 6:30-9:30PM. $6 plus one drink minimum. DJ Eric will be on stage playing a variety of dance music.
THURSDAY NIGHT (June 30th) AT POINT POINT was warm and PACKED with about 60 dancers. There were about 50 dancers the week earlier. Once again, DJ Leo was playing the great dance favorites. Since the dance floor, which is Point Point's main floor, was always full of dancers, I couldn't tell what were favorite songs. Latin songs were big with "Bailamos" and "Esta Noche" prominent, as well as tangos. The week before, the 2-step "Sinta" by Aegis was big. Line dances in both weeks included Nina's favorite "Come Dance With Me" and my favorite "Coco Jamboo".
This coming Thursday July 7th, Leo & Penny invite us all to dance again on the main floor at Point Point, 916 E. 8th Street, National City. Party dancing: 6:30-10 PM.
SATURDAY NIGHT DANCING AT FOUR POINTS HOTEL at 8110 Aero Drive on Kearny Mesa/Serra Mesa in the hotel's Citrus Restaurant lounge. I heard that the last two Saturday night dances have featured most of Bert Velasco's Dance-O-Rama dancers plus some 32nd-Streeters; there have been over 60 dancers - standing room only at the peak. Bert Velasco's dancers usually dance Friday nights in Poway's The Dance Place (TDP) at at the Growing Place Montessori School, 13242 Pomerado Road, Poway, but with their "SCHEDULE Temporary SUSPENDED due to TDP Hall Maintenance" they're at Four Points on Saturdays. Anyway, at Four Points the music has been ballroom dance songs and latin dance favorites.
This coming Saturday July 9th, it'll be dance party time again at Four Points, 8100 Aero Drive, with Bert Velasco teach more West Coast Swing (WCS) from 8-9pm. He taught basic WCS July 2nd (yesterday). "Social" dancing from 9-past midnight. Come early to get a seat. The DJ will be Mario or Abe. $8
32ND STREET Dance Group - Renovations are going on in the 32nd Street Group's regular big ballroom, so the Group has announced no Friday dancing at the ADM Robinson center until further notice.
PHOTOS (if these 2 photos do not pop up, click "Show Images" near top of this email):
First of all, at Lucky Star on Wednesday June 29th, we see Rose, Wilma and Vivian dancing to a rollicking cajun swing song.
Then, at Point Point on Thursday June 30th we see Peter dancing a stylish "La Cumparsita" tango with Beth.
I put those two plus 21 other photos from the past 2 weeks in the Forever Young Group Photos section into the '2011 June' folder. For those of you who prefer the features of Google's Picasa Web Albums, and you who are non-Yahoo members, the June photos are also posted at

First of all, at Lucky Star on Wednesday June 29th, we see Rose, Wilma and Vivian dancing to a rollicking cajun swing song.
Then, at Point Point on Thursday June 30th we see Peter dancing a stylish "La Cumparsita" tango with Beth.

Hawaiian Night at Point Point next Thursday June 9th
Hawaiian Night at Point Point next Thursday June 9th
Hello Dancers,
Point Point Joint has been bustling on Thursdays. Wear your Hawaiian clothes this coming Thursday. More details below.
TUESDAY NIGHT LINE DANCING - It was VIP night May 24th as Dr. Aurora Cudal and Femie Cupit, who happened to be on a COPAO errand, stopped in and joined us dancers in the Point Point Joint's Ocean Java Room. There ended up being 15 of us.
But, there were only 4 of us line dancers this past Tuesday (May 31st). After warming up to a few like "Under The Sun", "If You Wanna Be Happy", and "Locomotion", we spent an hour on "Action" (this link is to the Action Line Dance YouTube video), the fast line dance sung by Toby Keith. We discussed whether or not to use the steps seen on YouTube.
THIS COMING TUESDAY (June 7th) you can join the fun at Point Point, 916 E. 8th Street, National City, 6:30-9:00, when Nina or someone will lead us through fun line dances.
WEDNESDAY FILIPINO NIGHTS at Lucky Star Restaurant on May 25th and June 1st featured the KOLORZ live band. We made it there May 25th along with over a dozen other dancers, and KOLORZ was indeed a great musical variety band. "Jealousy (Tango of Love)", "Patricia" cha cha, and swing like "Johnny B Goode" were some of their selections. Excellent sax players Doug Buchanan and Nor, and singer Teresita performed with KOLORZ on May 25th.
"Filipino Night" once again will be this coming Wednesday June 8th at the LUCKY STAR RESTAURANT, 54th Street & University Avenue, San Diego. 7:00-9:30PM. $6 plus one drink minimum. KOLORZ band will be on stage playing a variety of dance steps, with recorded music during breaks.
THURSDAY NIGHT (June 2nd) DANCING AT POINT POINT had about 35 dancers. DJ Leo played the great dance favorites again. The beautiful rumba "Esta Noche" seemed to get the most dancers, nearly 30, and several others like the "Waltz Line Dance" were loved. Among line dances, it seemed like "Tennessee Waltz" was the favorite with 20 dancers. I was listening to the favorite Filipino 2-step when someone at the table told me that the song is "Sinta" by the Filipino vocal group Aegis from 1999. I'd mistakenly titled it "Nasasabik Ako Saiyo" back in April. It's certainly become popular at Point Point, as well as on YouTube, and it might be a rarity - the song seems to have grown from being a karaoke favorite at Gapo to a dance favorite at Point Point. By the way, if anyone's reading this in Manila now, according to the Internet Aegis will be performing at the "22nd Street Comedy Bar" in Antipolo on Saturday June 11th & 18th - if you go, tell them we love them.
This coming Thursday June 9th, Leo & Penny invite us all to dance again on the main floor at Point Point, 916 E. 8th Street, National City. Party dancing: 6:30-10 PM. It will be HAWAIIAN NIGHT so wear your Hawaiian attire.
SATURDAY NIGHT DANCING AT FOUR POINTS HOTEL at 8110 Aero Drive on Kearny Mesa/Serra Mesa in the hotel's Citrus Restaurant. I missed a couple weeks, but I heard it's been fun there lately. Last night's dance (June 4th) WAS fun with about 30 dancers. A dozen dancers were celebrating birthday. Dance stars from the 32nd St group, and Morris & his students looked great. DJ Joey played ballroom and a few line dance favorites. The favorite was "Lady In Red" night club 2-step with 24 dancers. Other favorites included "Hot Stuff" disco hustle and "Chattahoochee" boogie-swing. Parking was a little tight with a big gathering of martial arts enthusiasts going on in the hotel.
This coming Saturday June 11th, it'll be dance party time again with DJ Joey at Four Points, 8100 Aero Drive, 8pm-midnight. $8
