Old Town Dance Party This Thursday April 28, 2016

Hello Dancers,  

   Wow!  Eastlake is great.  But some other people will be using Eastlake's clubhouse this Thursday, so we'll go away for one week from that nice new place to the oldest part of San Diego - OLD TOWN!  Edith reserved her mostly Filipino-American church, Old Town Community Church, 2444 Congress Street, for the dance this week. FREE admission.  FREE parking.  FREE food.  FREE beverages.  DJ Bing will play line dances 6pm-7pm, followed by mixed ballroom and line dancing until 10pm. 


 DIRECTIONS:  Take I-5, then take the Old Town Avenue exit.  Turn east onto Old Town Avenue (i.e., towards Old Town and the hills).  Go about 2 blocks to San Diego Avenue (a signal lighted intersection) and turn left.  Go a block and make a slight left at a Y-intersection onto Congress Street. The Church (2444 Congress St) is on the right, 2 blocks ahead.

Parking Lot Entrance is around the corner on Conde Street.  If you are early enough, there'll still be parking in the church parking lot, or along the entrance driveway, next to the church parsonage.  Otherwise, park on the surrounding streets.  


THE 70's DISCO DANCE PARTY.  Last Thursday was a 70's Disco Dance Party at Eastlake.  DJ Bing played for about 60 dancers.  The nine photos below show part of the fun night.   (Note: If the following 9 photos do not appear when you look at this email, click the words at the top of this email that say something like "Show images which are still blocked to protect your privacy" - I already know who you are):

LAST THURSDAY APRIL 21, 2016, AT EASTLAKE 1 CLUBHOUSE AT 2050 LAKESHORE DRIVE, CHULA VISTA - IT WAS DISCO NIGHT

BY THE LAKE.  It was dancetime, but I pushed Nina, Ruben, Edith, Royce, Maria, Bing and Neriza out to the railing for a photo by Eastlake. 

FOOD. Once again there was plenty of FOOD,  My notes are incomplete, but I think we had lumpia from Celia, suman & bibingka from Nina & Rei, spaghetti from Solly, chicken from Eden, rum cake from Tito & Gloria, fruit from Nick, pichi-pichi from Nene, and much more.  In the food line:  Gloria, Eden, Edith and Dolores.  

LINE DANCING.  Above, dancing to "Carinito", Edith, Nedy and Nora were in the front line, sort of. 

BOOGIE.  We guys preferred ballroom dances.  Above, dancing to "All Over Again", it was first-timer Nanette and Romy.

BORRACHO Y LOCO.  Evelyn and DJ Bing were in front dancing the line dance "Bachata Risma".

EVA and JOSIE were having fun dancing to something.

DISCO ATTIRE WINNERS.  It was 70's Disco Night.  Above, winners and prize awarders were Eva, Edith, Tito, Gloria, Dolores, Eden and Nina.

DANCING joyously to "Bailando":   Nene, Medy, Rachel, Dolores, Eva and Josie.

Other Notes: (1) These are really fun ballroom and line dance parties.  This is Thursday night dancing in San Diego.  While the dancing is continuous, there are dancers who are happy to give free dance one-on-one lessons during the dances, in case you don't know the steps of a particular dance.  Hmmm - I bet the simultaneous instructions while others are dancing make these, for example, the best free swing dancing lessons in San Diego.

It's a "private party" and this is your invitation!   DIRECTIONS:  Take the H Street East to Eastlake Drive.  Go right one block and turn right onto Lakeshore Drive. Then, turn left immediately into parking lot - the clubhouse is beyond the white gate.

  Last Thursday was a joyous party at Eastlake. DINNER. Yes, plenty of Filipino FOOD again like lumpia from birthday girl Emelie, siopao from Nina & Friends, pancit from Josie, fruit dish from (?), and much more.  In the food line:  Nedy, Nene, Elma and Lito. 

LINE DANCING was big.  Above, dancing to "Take Me Away", Gigi, Nedy and Nene were in the front line.

SAMBA.  Neriza and Myrna looked good dancing to "Bailando".

BORRACHO Y LOCO.  Edith and Elsie are in front dancing the line dance "Bachata Risma".

BALLROOM.  We guys preferred ballroom dances. Above, Elma and Lito danced probably to a tango.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Emelie!  Wishing her well by her birthday cake were Ralph, Suzanne, Nita, Bert Alota and Josie.

RUMBA.  While Ping and Elsie danced rumba, some others line danced to "Beguine Per Sognare".

MIRA MESA GIRLS!    Above, while most line danced to "Uptown Funk", Aurea and Pure did their own cute dance.  They had come down from Mira Mesa with Nickie Bascos after Thursday evening line dancing up there.

BOOGIE.  I got to dance with Gigi to a boogie called "Love Song".

LET'S GO.  After closing time there was still time for another group photo.

Manolo's Service - Friday Apr 15 - 10AM

Hi Dancers,
  A Celebration of Life for Manolo Hernandez, who died suddenly on March 10th, will be held this coming Friday April 15, 2016, at 10AM in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 790 N. Rancho Del Rey Pkwy, Chula Vista CA 91910.  The Celebration will be hosted by Yria Lidia.  Patty extended an invitation to us who knew Manolo when he was a joyous dancer at Point Point Joint.

   It'll be another fun dance party this Thursday night in the Eastlake 1 association's beachside Clubhouse at 2050 Lakeshore Drive, Chula Vista 91913 from 6-10pm.  FREE admission.  FREE parking.  FREE food and snacks.  FREE beverages.  DJ Bing will play line dances 6pm-7pm, followed by mixed ballroom and line dancing until 10pm. It's a "private party" and this is your invitation. DIRECTIONS:  Take the H Street East exit off 805. Go east on H Street (for about 5 miles).  Turn right onto Eastlake Drive (a lighted intersection).  Go about a block and turn right onto Lakeshore Drive. Then, turn left immediately into parking lot - the clubhouse is beyond the white gate.

  Last Thursday was the 2nd fabulous "Thursday Night Dancers" party at Eastlake. BALLROOM.  We guys preferred ballroom dances. Above, Neriza and Ralph danced to "Reet Petite" boogie.

VAL and ELSA also danced to "Reet Petite".

ANNOUNCEMENTS.  Nina thanked Ruben for making arrangements, and she made other announcements like May 5th's Cinco De Mayo Dance Party, while DJ Bing watched. 

YUMMY FOOD.  The big spread included lumpia from Emelie, roasted peanuts from Nita, cookies, breads and more.

POINT POINT REUNION, sort of.  Lydia, former Point Point Joint owner, lives nearby, so she dropped in and was greeted by Edith, Rei and Nina.

BACHATA RISMA continues to be a favorite line dance.  Above, it was Patty on the right.

DJ MEL dropped in.  Above, he danced with Elma to the boogie "Tequila".

GRACE was a first-timer.  Above, I got to dance with her to "Just A Little Crush".

LADY IN RED Eden had "Lady In Red" dedicated to her at one point.  Above, I got to dance with her to the boogie "You Never Can Tell".

Dance Again at Eastlake's Clubhouse This Thursday April 7, 2016

Hi Again Dancers,  

   Let's dance again this Thursday night dancing in the Eastlake 1 association's lakeside Clubhouse at 2050 Lakeshore Drive, Chula Vista 91913 from 6-10pm.  FREE admission.  FREE parking.  FREE snacks.  FREE beverages.  DJ Bing will play line dances 6pm-7pm, followed by mixed ballroom and line dancing until 10pm.  DIRECTIONS:  Take the H Street East exit off 805.   What a PARTY last Thursday!! DJ Bing played for over 60 dancers! About 10 of the Prime Ladies of San Diego including Marie showed up because their usual Thursday night dance was cancelled.  Nickie Bascos brought several Mira Mesa Sr Center dancers because the Sr Center is closed to dancing until July.  And, Emelie came with several of Jun Ancho's Circle of Frenz. About 20 former Point Point Jointers. LAST THURSDAY MARCH 31, 2016, AT EASTLAKE 1 CLUBHOUSE AT 2050 LAKESHORE DRIVE, CHULA VISTA:

LINE DANCING was non-stop from 6pm-7pm.  Above, dancing to "Let's Get Loud", Edith, Tess, and Fe were in the front line.

HAPPY TOGETHER.  While line dancers danced to "Let's Mambo Together", Tess, Myna, Edith and Nora did their own little dance.

TANGO TIME.  We guys preferred ballroom dances. Above, Lito and Neriza danced tango nicely to "Blue Tango".

MIRA MESA GIRLS.  Doing their own dance to "Crazy Little Thing Called Love", left to right it was Pure, Lou, Aurea and Aurora, who hopefully found Eastlake to be a suitable substitute for the temporarily-closed Mira Mesa Senior Center.

CUMBIA.  Nitz and Val danced to "Amor Ala Mexicana".  Val dances often in Quezon City's Savannah Moon club when he is in Manila.

Jun Alcantara was one of the high energy dancers.  Above, he danced with Edith to "Rumba Samba Mambo".

DJ BING played great songs up until 10pm.

SALSA.  Above, I got to dance with Dolores to the salsa "Mi Bom Bon".
