Jack Is Back by The Clan gets dancers going at Point Point

Hello Dancers,
"Jack Is Back" by The Clan has been getting a lot of dancers on the floor at Point Point lately.  I tried to get some info on the group and the song.

The Clan - Who are they?  I cannot tell.
But, here are some clues I found on the Internet.

About Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) is one of my best videos. (words of whoever posted the video)

The Clan (formerly The Barefoot Clan), started as a blues/psychedelic rock trio who later incorporated more hardcore punk and doom influences into their music. They don’t take themselves too seriously.

They are based in Trivandrum, India and were formed in late 2009. Since formation the group has maintained the same line up.

(I'm suspicious - this might be a different Clan - B.D.)

Jack is Back
Artist: The Clan

Album: Afro Cubano

Song Length: 3:14

George's Thoughts: A favorite Jive song. This song takes so many different aspects of dance music -- big band, Latin, beebop, even a bit of rap -- and puts them together masterfully to make one of the most danceable Jive pieces I've heard. The dance floor always fills up when this comes on, so I know I'm not the only one who finds it charming.

Jack Is Back "release date" was Oct 11, 1999

------------------------------

a dance exhibition to "Jack Is Back" (maybe in Italy??)

------------------------------

My suspicion is that "Jack Is Back" is a European studio recording, and may not include the band "The Clan", allegedly seen in the following psychedelic rock video.

"The Clan" doing "Doom Song" - not at all similar to "Jack Is Back"

And, I see "Jack Is Back" was allegedly released by a German record company, Coconut Records, per the following:

Hmmm.  Well, OK, enough of that.  Join the dancing fun most Thursday nights at Point Point, which we have been doing courtesy of Point Point for over a year now.

'Caballero' Becomes Line Dance Favorite

"Caballero" has captivated local line dancers this year.  Details and words to Caballero are below.

Hello Dancers,

TUESDAY NIGHT LINE DANCING WITH NINA at Point Point continues.  "Caballero" became an instant Tuesday night favorite starting Jan 31st when Dante, leader of the Bay Terraces (Tooma Park) Seniors, came to Point Point to teach the "Caballero" line dance to us.  With 64 steps to it, "Caballero" is probably the most difficult line dance the Tuesday-nighters try, and weekly endeavors to learn the steps continue.  But, its sweet melancholy melody and its lovely Italian vocals are enchanting.  (Lyrics to "Caballero" are below.)  Thanks to Nitz, a 32nd Street regular. Nitz came by Tuesday Feb 21st to teach us the "Mojo Mambo" line dance.  Other  favorites of the Tuesday night line dancers at Point Point continue to be "I'm Alive", "Almost Jamaica" and "There's a Kind of Hush".  Nina has kindly allowed me to promote the "Hands Up" line dance and a line dance medley.
FOR UPCOMING TUESDAYS (like Mar 13th, 20th, etc.), you can join the fun in Point Point's Ocean Java Room, 916 E. 8th Street, National City, 7:00-9:00, when Nina normally leads us through fun line dances.

THURSDAY NIGHT DANCING AT POINT POINT continues.  DJ Mel and I have been taking alternate weeks to play the music.  DJ Leo reappeared at Point Point on March 1st to a rousing round of applause.  DJ Dwayne, who works Gapo karaoke, and who used to DJ at the former Jestoni Bistro, has also been on the Point Point dance floor lately.  What have been the favorite dances?  Well, especially later in the evenings, night club 2-steps like "Sinta" by the Aegis Band, "Tal Vez Quizas", and "Yo Te Amo" pack the floor.  Swing like "Stayin Alive" and "1st, Last, Everything" do well.  Tango, merengue, waltz like "Right Thing We Do" waltz line dance, and cha cha songs like "Place In My Heart" are all well liked.  Attendance has varied from 25 to 50 each Thursday night.  When a group of Bay Terraces (Tooma Park) dancers is there, line dances are very prominent.  Just after my previous report (Jan 22nd), on Thursday Jan 26th Bay Terraces (Tooma Park) dancers like Dante and Estrelle danced the "Caballero" line dance - the 1st time I saw it - 5 times!  It's been the favorite line dance ever since.  Other line dances, such as "Almost Jamaica", "Rivers Of Babylon", "It's My Soul", "Mamma Maria" and "Todo Todo Todo" still fill the floor.
While Mel Zaragoza and I alternate as DJs, we say "come on down" to dance and get some great food on Thursdays at Point Point every Thursday night, i.e, March 15th, 22nd, 29th, etc.  Where:  On the main floor at Point Point, 916 E. 8th Street, National City.   Non-Stop Party dancing:  6:00-10 PM.

FRIDAY NIGHT DANCING:  There are about five almost-every-Friday night Fil-Am dance parties in the San Diego area, including 32nd St Dance Group, Dancesation at Infinity, RMX, Red Hot Line Dancers, and the Dance Fusion Social Club.  FOR MORE INFO ON THOSE AND MORE DANCE CHOICES, see Weekly Dance Events website.  Also, this early Friday evening March 16th, two of our favorite dancers, Rima & Nedy, along with other models will be featured in a fashion show at Jasmine Seafood Restaurant, about 2 blocks from Infinity (more details below).

The next photo is what I see as THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN, Jona, Edith, Divine, Shirley, Eva, Marylou and Ly all looking great even at 10pm at closing time at Point Point on Thursday February 16th.

OK, here's Bert Alota, the master of dip dancing, gracefully dipping Divine at Point Point on February 23rd.

Here we see the always stylish Rima dancing with Angel at Point Point on Thursday February 23rd.  Rima and other models will be showing off new fashions this coming Friday March 16th at the Jasmine Seafood Restaurant, 4609 Convoy Street, San Diego, from 5 - 9pm.  It will be a Dinner-Entertainment-Fashion Show called "Exotique 2012".  RSVP Contact is Boogie Arce at 619-203-8171.

And, last but not least, it's DJ Leo and Cheryl greeting each other entering Point Point on Thursday March 1st.

"Caballero" rapidly became a line dance favorite among San Diego's Fil-Am dancers early this year.  I first saw it danced on Thursday Jan 26th in Point Point.  DJ Mel, Dante and Estrelle, Bay Terraces (Tooma Park) dancers introduced it at Point Point.  The recording is sung in Italian by a woman with a nice voice to some sort of a rumba, tango or cha cha tempo.  It came out in 2010 by the "Orchestra Mario Riccardi".  The line dance first appeared on YouTube in May 2011, as far as I can tell, and now incredibly there are about 100 videos of various groups dancing it!  The copyrights for the lyrics below are presumably owned by the Italian writers, and no copyright infringement is intended here.  In fact, I'm not sure we got it 100% correct.  The English translation is NOT literal - the translation is approximate, closer to conversational English.

LYRICS FOR CABALLERO BY ORCHESTRA MARIO RICCARDI

Lyrics of Caballero
as recorded by Italy’s Mario Riccardi Orchestra (2010), available on iTunes

VERSE 1:
Dalla sua terra se ne è andato
(You left your (home) land.)

Per giorni ha camminato
(And for days you walked)

Lontano dalle sue radici
(Far from your roots,)

Da solo e senza amici
(Alone and without friends. )

Ma gli è rimasta dentro il cuore
(But deep in your heart )

La voglia di tornare
(You still think of going home, )

Per ritrovare quell’amore che aspetta laggiù.
(Back to the love that waits for you. )

CHORUS:
Torna a casa caballero.
(Come back home guy.)

Cavalcando il tuo sentiero
(You’re going the wrong way )

Nella nebbia della sera
(In the fog of night,)

Sta inseguendo una chimera
(and you’re chasing a fantasy. )

Torna a casa caballero
(Come back home guy.)

Segui fiero il tuo sentiero,
(Just take the road home proudly, )

Sventolando il tuo sombrero
(Wave your hat, and )

Ritorna, mio caballero
(Come home, my man.)

VERSE 2:
Oltrepassando la radura
(Passing by fields,)

Cavalca senza paura
(Riding without fear, )

Lasciando indietro tante storie
(You’re leaving behind so much,)

Di gioia e di dolore
(Both joy and sadness. )

Ma gli è rimasta dentro il cuore
(But deep in your heart )

La voglia di tornare
(You still think of going home, )

Per ritrovare quell’amore che aspetta laggiù.
(Back to the love that waits for you. )

CHORUS:
Torna a casa caballero.
(Come back home guy.)

Cavalcando il tuo sentiero
(You’re going the wrong way )

Nella nebbia della sera
