Caballero by Orchestra Mario Riccardi is Favorite on its First Night

Hello Dancers,
Well last Thursday was a first.  "Caballero" by Orchestra Mario Riccardi was played about five times!!  It seems that all the San Diego Fil-Am line dance groups are learning it.  Tonight Nina's group will get special lessons on it at Point Point from 7pm - 9pm courtesy of Dante from the Bay Terraces Seniors (Tooma Park Seniors).  Looking on YouTube, it seems like choreographer Ira Weisburd posted videos of Caballero Line Dance about 8 months ago.  The songs beautiful arrangement must be part of the reason that there are now about 100 YouTube videos of different line dance groups dancing it!!  Here are two of my favorite YouTube line dancers doing "Caballero", Senipadu down in Malaysia, and Juliet Lam in California, I think.  "Caballero" is available for downloading; it was on a album called "La Barca", apparently released in 2010.  Since the song is sung in Italian, I'm looking for someone who speaks Italian to translate the lyrics.
"Hands Up" by Ottawan was also introduced at Point Point on Thursday, too.  There are not as many YouTube videos of "Hands Up" (click for video) but I like this one which is being danced somewhere in Asia.   "Hands Up", out of France, was popular world-wide back in 1981-1982.
Those two line dances join a bunch of other ones recorded in other countries or languages that we dance to:  "Tennessee Waltz" by Ireen Sheer, "Simplemente" by Chayanne, "Todo Todo Todo" by Daniela Romo, "Memory" by Ross Mitchell Band, "Rivers Of Babylon" by Boney M, "Mamma Maria" by Ricchi & Poveri, "Mega Mambo" by Athos & Mancini, "Coco Jamboo" by Mr. President, "If You Wanna Be Happy" by Dr. Victor, "Chilly Cha Cha" by Jessica Jay, "Levantando Las Manos" by El Simbolo, and "Under the Sun" by Tim Tim (I presume Tim Tim recorded in Europe).

Till we dance again,

Valentine Dances Coming Soon!

 Valentine Dances Coming Soon!

San Diego Fil-Am dancers will have a variety of Valentine Dance Parties to choose from.  Details below.

Hello Dancers,

TUESDAY NIGHT LINE DANCING WITH NINA at Point Point continues.  Lately, the  favorites of the Tuesday night line dancers at Point Point have been  "There's a Kind of Hush", "Almost Jamaica", and "It's My Soul".
FOR UPCOMING TUESDAYS (like Jan 24th & 31st), you can join the fun in Point Point's Ocean Java Room, 916 E. 8th Street, National City, 6:30-9:00, when Nina normally leads us through fun line dances.  But, NOT TUESDAY FEB 7th - Point Point will be reserved that night for another large private party.

THURSDAY NIGHT DANCING AT POINT POINT continues.  DJ Leo and Penny are reportedly still in the Philippines.   Anyway, we're playing lots of cha cha - "Place In My Heart" (the YouTube video at this link seems to indicate that the song was in a Marilyn Monroe documentary) is either becoming or seeing a resurgence as a cha cha favorite - night club 2-steps - "Sinta" and "Yo Te Amo" get everyone on the floor - and swing, merengue, and the waltz line dance are favorites with about 30 in attendance each Thursday.  As for line dances, "Tennessee Waltz", "Rivers Of Babylon" and "Todo Todo Todo" usually fill the floor.
As Mel Zaragoza and I alternate filling in as DJs for Leo, we invite you to dance on Thursdays at Point Point every Thursday night into February, i.e, January 26th, February 2nd, 9th & 16th, and on.  Where:  On the main floor at Point Point, 916 E. 8th Street, National City.   Non-Stop Party dancing:  6:00-10 PM.

VALENTINE DANCE PARTIES include:  (a) Thursday February 9th Valentine's Dance Party and Coronations sponsored by Bay Terraces Fil-Am Seniors Assn (aka Tooma Park Seniors) at St. John of the Cross Catholic Church Hall.  (b) Also, a dance party at Point Point that night.  (c) Friday, February 10th Valentines Dinner and Dance at 32nd Street, and (d) Saturday, February 11th Valentines Dance, at St Rose of Lima Parish Hall. See Upcoming Events Website for more details.

FRIDAY NIGHT DANCING:  There are about five almost-every-Friday night Fil-Am dance parties in the San Diego area, including 32nd St Dance Group, Dancesation at Infinity, RMX, Red Hot Line Dancers, and the Dance Fusion Social Club.  FOR MORE INFO ON THOSE AND MORE DANCE CHOICES, see Weekly Dance Events website.

PHOTOS.  Here's 4 of 29 photos posted at the sites listed below.  These are from late December through January 19th (if these 4 photos are not displayed in this email, click "Show Images" near top of this email):

First of all, we see DJ Dwayne of Gapo and Jestoni club fame dancing with Celia on Thursday December 29th at Point Point.

Next, we see Nina leading a lot of line dancers through "There's A Kind Of Hush" at Point Point on Thursday Jan 12th.

Then, later that same night we see Zeny and Bert Alota dancing to a bolero.

And, last but not least, it's Jun and Jona dancing near the end of our January 19th dance party at Point Point.

I put those four photos plus 25 other photos from the past several weeks in the ForeverYoungSD Yahoo Group Photos section into the '2011 December' and '2012 January' folders.  For those of you who prefer the big screen image quality and other features of Google's Picasa Web Albums (no log-in required), and you who are non-Yahoo members, see the photos posted at

and

January Photos in Picasa

You can download photos from both locations.  Using another Picasa feature, you can order prints on-line out of a Picasa album from several print providers including Walgreens without the need to download & upload photo files to & from your computer. To see the photo file names in Picasa Web, left click on a photo in the "gallery" view (in "slideshow" click Escape).

New Links to Picasa Photo Albums

Hello Dancers,

I'll put usable links in my new e-mails.  If you want to read tedious details, read on:

In December, Google decided to make Picasa users log in to Google in order to see the photos in Google's Picasa web photo albums.  Google was urging people to switch to Google+ albums, a vastly inferior photo album service.  There was a big uproar over that on the Picasa forums!!  (I'm sure Google would disagree with my analysis, but anyway what I'm saying is what I believe to be true.)

Most Picasa album users do NOT want to get a Google account and log in (as people must do for Yahoo and Facebook).  So, Google slightly relented.  At least for the moment, there are alternate URL links to take you directly to Picasa on line photo albums without the need to log in to Google.

For the December 2011 album, use
https://picasaweb.google.com/103176925923805337179/2011December?noredirect=1

For January 2012 album, use:
https://picasaweb.google.com/103176925923805337179/2012January?noredirect=1

By the way, these photos go with the ForeverYoungSD group emails that I email on occasion.  Direct access (without log in to Google) to all the older albums going back to 2009 in the Jestoni Bistro was also blocked in December 2011, but you can still see them once you get to any of my Picasa albums using the above links.  Just click on my name (Bert Donaldson) and all the older album titles & cover photos will appear.

As before, I put the same photos in the "Photos" section of the ForeverYoungSD Yahoo Group using the same album names as in Picasa.  (Yahoo, like Facebook, requires an account & password to see photo albums on their services.)

I'm gradually learning Picasa's good points (yeah - just when Google decides to muck it up).  Image quality is better - minimal image distortion.  You can easily get to a largely full screen slideshow by hitting "slideshow".  To stop in mid-show and see the photo title, hit "Esc" (Escape), click on the photo tile and the photo title, etc., appears in a panel on the right, for most computers.  To resume slideshow, click on "Full Screen", then click on the Play button at the bottom.  In some cases, merely clicking "Esc" will bring up a photo's title, etc.

Till we dance again, best wishes,

Bert
