Hello Dancers,
DJ Eric started Sunday "Strictly Ballroom" at Lucky Star, and Leo Dulce started Thursday night dancing at Point Point. More details below.
TUESDAY NIGHT LINE DANCING - At the Point Point Joint line dancing this past Tuesday Jan 25th fifteen, counting people who were there for part of the night, danced through about ten line dances, like "Asi Asi", "Cumbia Semana", "Tennessee Waltz", and "Volare". "If You Wanna Be Happy" footwork got extra attention. DJ John Llaneta's mom Leti joined us for the first time in about a year.
THIS TUESDAY (Feb 1st) you can join the fun at Point Point, 916 E. 8th Street, National City, 6:30-9:00, when Nina will again lead us through fun line dances. $5.
EDITH will continue selling tickets to a Feb 19th Post-Valentine Dinner Dance at Holiday Inn on the Bay. See details in Upcoming Events.
WEDNESDAY FILIPINO NIGHT at Lucky Star Restaurant on January 26th was moved into the smaller ballroom because there was a big party in the big ballroom. There were about 30 dancers, with just under 20 dancers hitting the floor at the most. The dance floor did not get crowded. Luckily, 15 of the dancers were friends of Bernie that he brought in, several of them visiting the U.S. from the Philippines. I imagine we were a strange sight to those tourists. With quite a few line dancers in the room, DJ Eric had best results with line dances like "Achy Breaky Heart", "Asi Asi", "Coco Jamboo", and "Todo Todo Todo".
"Filipino Night" once again will be this coming Wednesday Feb 2nd at the LUCKY STAR RESTAURANT, 54th Street & University Avenue, San Diego. 6:30-9:30PM. $6 plus one drink minimum.
THURSDAY NIGHT DANCING AT POINT POINT became a reality on Jan 27th!! With attendance at Jade House for Thursday night dancing disappearing, close to 20 showed up for the inaugural Thursday night dance at Point Point. Point Point moved tables out of the way on main floor, and DJ Leo set up near the trays for the buffet line. His 3 small speakers were certainly loud enough for Point Point. With only about 4 guys doing any dancing and so many ladies itching to dance, Leo had to play line dances predominantly. Dancing went on till 10PM.
This coming Thursday Feb 3rd, Point Point will once again feature dancing, roughly 6:30 - 10 PM. The only admission cost is $10 which gets you a 2-entree buffet dinner, 2 soft drinks, and all the dancing you can handle. However, due to the newness of this event, it's best to call ahead around 6PM to Point Point 619-474-2866 to verify it will happen.
SUNDAY AFTERNOON "STRICTLY BALLROOM" 2-5PM at Lucky Star is DJ Eric's new addition to the weekly San Diego dance scene. It will be interesting to see how this does on the same day as other dancing in National City (see Upcoming Events page). Just like Wednesday nights, there will be a $6 cover charge and 1 drink minimum.
PHOTOS:
First of all, from Filipino Night at Lucky Star Wednesday Jan 26th, we see tango dancers on doing their turns in the smaller (but still big) ballroom.
Then, at Point Point Thursday night inaugural dance, Jan 27th, we see an overview of the "dance floor" with eleven line dancers dancing to "Asi Asi". DJ Leo is in a yellow shirt near the back.
